It was only a matter of time before talks of who will be the next manager at Real Madrid started. It was also only a matter of time before United outcast Jose Mourinho was to get a high-profile job.

Real Madrid went out of the Champions League in a laughable fashion. They took a big beating inside the Santiago Bernabeu by four goals to one at the hands of Dutch giants, Ajax. On aggregate, the final score was 5-3 in Ajax favour.

In the first meeting between the two, Madrid noticeably had no control of the game and felt after getting a stroke of fortune thanks to VAR, they were going to win the matchup in the second leg at Santiago Bernabeu. They left Amsterdam with a slender 2-1 advantage, but the weight of two away goals tipped qualification in the Spanish club’s favour.

Because of this, they assumed they were in complete control of the return leg, seeing it was a home fixture in Spain. They then gambled on their fortunes even more and intentionally had  Sergio Ramos take a yellow card in the Amsterdam fixture, leaving him out suspended for the next meeting. This was a precaution for the quarterfinals, knowing Ramos would be free of any yellow cards and would be available for both legs.

Sadly, they got punished for their arrogance! Real started their match in promising style but were soon outdone by a more athletic and youthful Dutch side. Every counter they launched almost resulted in a  goal. A brief description of what all went down at the Bernabeu… Real Madrid were lucky not to lose by more than four goals.

More from Manchester United

Now any football lover will know, any manager who is currently in charge of the 13-time winners has a monumental job on their hands. And that if you were to get knocked out of the Champions League as early as they did on Tuesday night, your job as the Real boss is as good as gone.

Well, talks have already begun about Madrid and what is the way forward. Santiago Solari has already come out stating, “he will not quite the club”. Okay! But you will get fired though. Before the Champions League exit, they already lost in the Copa del Rey to old rivals, Barcelona, and afore that a loss to La Liga’s 14th placed side, Ginora. That’s four losses in the last six outings for Madrid. Adding more evidence, Santiago Solari will get the sack.

Now with his position already in question, one man’s name has popped up numerous times, Jose Mourinho. Sky Sports reported Real president, Ramon Calderon has indicated Jose is the first and only candidate for the job when it comes available. And it comes as no surprise. It was more a matter of when and not if. Contact has been made between the club and the ex-United manager, so it’s only a matter of time before he is named the boss at Santiago Bernabeu once again.

The other manager from the English Premier League that’s name has been rumoured with the possible replacement is Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Jurgen has already denied moving over before moving to Anfield, so a big doubt over the German taking the job this time.

It’s going to be a messy ending to a messy campaign for the 13-time European champions.
