Transfer News: Would Man United supporters swap Romelu Lukaku for Mauro Icardi
Both men have loads of speculations surrounding them and their futures at their respected clubs. What would you do in such a case if you were the manager on either end of this situation?
Hard to judge Romelu Lukaku after the great shift he put in last night when United beat Crystal Palace by three goals to nil. The Big Belgian was at the peak of his powers and pushed United over the line with two goals on the night.
Ole’s men were doubtful of taking any points from the fixture after they suffered so many first team injuries over the weekend. Well, the Norwegian barely missed those players because of Lukaku and co’s performances on the night. But this is one in a few for the striker.
Since Ole walked in by the doors at Old Trafford, Lukaku’s been sitting out a lot more than he did when Jose Mourinho was the manager. He underwent a lot of criticism for his overweight look and sluggish ball play and eventually got dropped from the starting 11.
Marcus was always the better frontman for United!

There was ongoing debate enveloped around Rashford and Lukaku. The United public was tired of Lukaku’s first-touch antics, or none thereof, moaning for a change in the number 9 slot. Since the change was made and Rashford started leading the line, nobody’s looked back ever since.
During this time as there always will be, transfer rumours started linking the heavy-priced Belgian with a move to Italy, with Inter Milan the team most interested in his services. It was said, Inter will make Lukaku their top transfer target come the summer.
Mauro Icardi‘s on his way out
Why this has become more than a story is because there have been some in-house problems hitting the surface between Icardi and the Italian club. The player looks as if he is ready to bounce out of there.
Stripped of his captaincy and left on the bench for some important moments has almost sealed his fate at Inter. Now with the links of Romelu and Inter coming in thick and fast, it cast even more doubt over his future and whether he will be at the club following the next summer window.
Would United fans swap Lukaku for Icardi?
I say they would. Lukaku’s quality is that of Chelsea and Arsenal at best. In a United shirt, he hasn’t really lived up to the price tag. Make no mistake, he has an amazing goal return, yet, the quality of his play is nowhere near the standards of players such as Rashford and Lingard.
Icardi is one of the brightest talents in front of goal. All but one season since the year 2014, Icardi has failed to score 20 plus goals. He is a better suitor for the United way compared to Lukaku.
That and the Belgian has had his fair amount of chances to fit into his price tag and make up for lost time. A swap deal would work in favour of both clubs and both players.
