Genoa can kiss their potentially world-class defender Cristian Romero goodbye after the season concludes. Another player where the question has changed from if he will leave to where will he end up?

The 20-year-old Cristian Romero has been a prime target for a number of Europe’s best clubs. During January Goal.com kept a close eye on the Argentine and their sources were convinced Juventus has pulled off another brilliant signing for next season.

The player’s valuation has been set at €30 million (£26 million), per Goal’s report. This is a steal considering the market value of players his age and quality. However, the player knows little about the agreement being set and that his more than open to other options.

Looks like he’s pushing for a move to England

More from Manchester United

United was linked to the youngster and a 100 other players in Europe’s top leagues, but this one is the one they would want to get over the line. Besides Luke Shaw, I don’t rate any other defender good enough to take over from the going out Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young.

They are reaching the latter stages of their careers and both are already 33-years-old. They need young players to come in and learn from these experienced men. Other than the two, Man United’s CB’s have not been the best of those who’ve come and gone, in United colours.

Victor Lindelof is the only one that’s improved under the caretaker boss, Ole Gunnar. The others remain suspect and need adequate competition, or replacing after a really poor defensive season. So with this all in mind and something United has to consider, it’s very encouraging to hear players wanting a switch to Old Trafford, even if they have been underachieving in the last few seasons.

Speaking on the rumours and United links: via Goal.com

"Now I dream of playing in the Champions League for one of the four most important clubs in the world: Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United.Have Juve already secured me? I don’t know. I don’t deal with the market and my first thought is Genoa. There’s still so many matches remaining and I want to keep playing like I am. After that, I’ll talk to the directors and my agent."

United need a new defence and need to work on getting a proper spine going down the middle of the team. He is a step in that direction and will add quality for years to come.
