Man United: Anthony Martial signs contract extension with Old Trafford side
Anthony Martial has signed a new contract with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until 2024.
Rumours had been circling all week that Martial was on the verge of signing a new contract, and the club confirmed that the French forward had agreed to re-sign early on Thursday.
United confirmed the renewal via their social media outlets, as well as their website, and will hope this represents the start of a series of renewals. David de Gea, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Ashley Young are also coming into the final year of their contracts, but the club’s revival under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the board hope that negotiations will go smoothly.

Martial’s future at the club looked in serious doubt over the summer, as he repeatedly clashed with former manager Jose Mourinho. The Frenchman had fallen down the pecking order, particularly after the signing of Alexis Sanchez a year ago, and Mourinho never really seemed to fully trust him.
It is likely that if Mourinho had stayed on, Martial would have left this winter or summer. Negotiations for the new contract would certainly have been more fraught and complicated without Solskjaer at the helm.
Martial’s form has seen an upturn under the Norwegian interim boss, mirroring the rest of the squad. He has scored twice and assisted a further goal in six games under Solskjaer, while his buildup play has improved considerably.
The 23-year-old spoke after the announcement of his contract extension, saying:
"“I am loving my time at this club. From the day I joined I have been made to feel part of the United family and I have been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the warmth and love of our fans, who continue to amaze me with their support.“I would like to thank Ole and his coaching staff for their belief in me and for helping me to take my game to the next level. This club is all about winning trophies and I am sure the next piece of silverware is not that far away.”"
As United’s resurgence continues under Solskjaer’s regime, the future is looking bright for the Red Devils. Fans will be hoping for more positive news when United take on Leicester City on Sunday.
