The legend of Old Trafford and Manchester United is long and holds much allure. However, in recent years it has deteriorated into a situation where the factors of media, fans, and the club have all attached their tethers to the manager and stretched him in various directions.

Since the departure of Alex Ferguson, the Lancashire club has fallen behind their rivals in the same city and their bitter rivals to the West. The Scottish boss waged war on all of England and conquered the Premier League title a stunning 13 times. His retirement and separation from the club have left shambolic ruins of failure for all his successors who dared to follow Sir Alex.

This apparatus of volatility has taken David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho as its victims thus far. Pochettino could surely suffer the same fate.

The combination of a media and fan base with lavish expectations, due to years of vast pampering by Fergie and his unprecedented success has caused a mass amount of unrealistic expectations. A squad that is talented, but very improperly balanced will present an issue to any incoming manager.

A back line with little to offer, a mass of midfielders many of which are past their prime, and an attack with good, not great, players all combining to create a very complicated squad. The money is never going to be an issue, however, an overhaul must occur. There should be a mass exodus of the remnants of Jose Mourinho’s squad and an influx of new, younger talent that can thrive under a new boss.

The lack of a squad plentiful with players and the immediate scrutiny from fans and media alike is the main reason Pochettino should stay put for now. He can wait for the best offer to come about and then take it.

An offer such as Real Madrid, Chelsea, or Manchester United is an awfully risky one as the pressure will be intense and immediate. If Pochettino could bring a title back to the new White Hart Lane, he would be a deity for Spurs fans and a legend of English football. That is how he would have accomplished a task many seem to believe to be impossible.

Therefore one can conclude passing on the United job and however tempting it may be, it is probably the correct decision for Mauricio Pochettino.
