Goal scoring only missing in one fixture over the weekend. Other than the Saints and Clarets standstill, goals were on show all weekend long.

A total of 25 goals were scored across the English Premier League on Matchday 1. Friday’s curtain raiser itself was a three-goal thriller that went to the wire.

Saturday’s six fixtures added 16 goals to the tally. With Sunday only giving us six, and the only game where two teams weren’t riding the wave the rest of the league were, accomplishing the only sparing match of Matchday 1.

Out of the 20 teams partaking in the auspicious Premier League, eight clubs failed to score a single goal, with a measly two games ending evening. Mind you – one of those games was the most electrifying of the day.

The two teams who added the most to this weekend’s fully firing, Premier League opening day – Liverpool [four goals], and Chelsea [three goals]. Hats off to the two title challengers for setting the pace.
