It was not a boring weekend to start the Premier League season. There was a lot of moments to remember and dissect to get us ready for the next 10 months.

25 goals on matchday one got all of us feeling amazing that the void in our lives is back. The Premier League is ready for another season of wild turns, goals, and drama that will make the next 10 months fly by. All but one of the big six left their first match with points (sorry Arsenal).

Furthermore, all but one match this weekend had at least a goal and we had some surprising ones. Not to mention all the debuts from the new signings in the summer transfer window. Here is the best of the weekend and also a podcast about it too.

Best Match – Wolves 2-2 Everton

The draw at the Molineaux Stadium had goals, cards, and everything else in-between you want from a Premier League match. The return of Wolves dominated the headlines for this late-Saturday clash, but the players stole the show during this match.

Two goals by Richarlison, a goal and an assist from Ruben Neves, and a tying-header from Raul Jimenez all marked great debuts for each player. Phil Jagielka’s red card added our first debate of “Was it the right call?” (No, it wasn’t). Wolves picked up their point up a man and Everton go back home without their most seasoned defender.

Best Player – Ruben Neves

Neves was the only player for Wolves trying to create good chances all game. His teammates were just sending long balls up to Jimenez and creating nothing. Neves scored the free kick that got Wolves back into the game and set up the other goal that got Wolves back into the game again. While Naby Keita had a sparkling midfield debut, he was not the reason Liverpool won 4-0. Neves is the reason Wolves have a point.

Best Fantasy Performance – Luke Shaw

I was gonna give this to Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, but he conceded two goals virtually canceling out his penalty save. Luke Shaw was the diamond in the rough for fantasy players to start their seasons out by getting his first career goal at the senior level. Add on a man of the match bonus and playing 90 minutes, 3.7% of the many millions playing FPL had a very happy Friday.

Best Goal & Moment – Neves’ Free Kick against Everton

This week, the best goal is also the best moment. Once again, Ruben Neves gets a third and fourth superlative in this article. What can I say, I really like Ruben Neves. This free kick was upper 90 all the way to the bank and even the mighty Jordan Pickford couldn’t keep it out.

The goal sent Wolves fans into a crazy frenzy in what was the first goal from any of the newly promoted sides. It gave their fans a moment never to be forgotten and was a realization that Wolves were back in the Premier League.

Next week offers a new challenge for Nuno Santo’s men when they travel to Leicester. Matchday two is headlined by Chelsea and Arsenal’s first meeting of the season at the Bridge. Hopefully, we get more crazy moments that will make 2018-19 the best season yet.
