Aleksandr Golovin: Chelsea said to be close to securing deal for midfielder
The boy from Russia is set to meet the man from Russia as a deal edges ever closer between Chelsea and Aleksandr Golovin.
The Russian youngster who was also a starlet showing in their hometown’s World Cup a fortnight ago, has been on the transfer list of many top clubs in Europe, and mostly in the English Premier League. Aleksandr’s short trip to stardom, came during the Europa League and the World Cup Finals.
A great start to the tournament, which faded out when the home nation stepped out after their quarterfinal loss to runner-up, Croatia. During the events of the World Cup, Golovin lit up the stage and started turning heads around Europe. Most notably, Chelsea and Manchester United.
When talks of links between the player and the two clubs hit the headlines – it was more United who was the team tipped to prise the Russia midfielder. However, since they’ve been knocked out, Chelsea have overtaken them and any other team in pursuit of the player.
In another region where the player’s name was uttered, was in parts of France. Top side Monaco were said have also put in a bid for the CSKA Moscow man. Sadly for them – a Russian’s influence on another can be extremely persuasive.
The latest on the midfielder’s movements
Many reports suggest Golovin turned down the offer to be Thomas Lemar replacement, and is well on his way to being a London boy. Talks are said to be in advanced stages and a deal could be announced as soon as Friday this week.
If things progress as reported, Chelsea would be doing some pretty good business, considering their bargaining chips for elite players a few than their rivals. Chelsea has recently lost out on a world-class goalkeeper after Roma and Liverpool agreed a fee for Alisson Becker.
Next: Manchester City: More depth is needed
Chelsea’s in need of a new keeper with reports of their first-choice stopper looking for a move to Real Madrid. Signing Jorginho and the potential signing of Golovin will make a massive statement. Include a replacement like Kasper Schmeichel, the Blues would have to be considered as strong favourites for the league title.
