The surprise run of the host nation at the World Cup has caught the eye of all watching in. Besides the team’s progress, how good has Aleksandr Golovin been for his country?

The Russian has been the spike in every Russian’s vodka this World Cup. Involved in almost every attack moving forward when playing, it’s no wonder the midfielder has caught the eye of many.

Out the club’s said to be tracking the quarterfinalist, Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be the hottest prospects for the player, with Chelsea leading the race, indefinitely.

Who is the Russian specialist?

Golovin is a 22-year-old central midfielder, who plays for top Russian side, CSKA Moscow. He has been at the peak of his powers during his country’s World Cup show.

During last season Aleksandr Golovin made 38 appearances across all competitions. What we can call his breakthrough season, Alex pitched in with seven goals and four assists. This all at the age of 22 and flying extremely low under the radar, while others have been stealing the limelight.

What stands out mostly about the player is the form he’s been in on the World’s biggest stage. A well placed free kick and aiding in two goals in his country’s push to the quarterfinals. He has to be one of the young stars in the World Cup, following his run.

Who’s leading in the chase?

Many reports have pointed in the direction of a Chelsea move. Go figure – a standout Russian player at Stamford Bridge, Roman Abramovich would want him there in a heartbeat.

The young Russia midfielder is said to be wanted by Man United and Arsenal, who are reported to miss out on the player because of Chelsea’s involvement. As stated by the Evening Standard, the player will cost the Blues £27 million to get him away from CSKA.

Next: Re-signing Fellaini would be a colossal mistake

The fee could rise if he and his country perform as they did in the group stages but still a pretty low few for a player who could be potentially be class under whoever is the boss at Chelsea. All the transfer links to Golovin has been to the English Premier League. This tells us we will see the player somewhere and London looks like the preferred destination.

However! A big however… This still all hangs in the air with a managerial issue the priority for the Blues. They must be hasty with a resolve set this week.
