The Blues are potentially looking to sign American Christian Pulisic. That would require giving Dortmund at least one player.

Reports are saying that Chelsea is currently contemplating a swap deal with Borussia Dortmund. This deal would send Alvaro Morata to Dortmund and Christian Pulisic to Chelsea. Morata is likely going to leave Chelsea no matter what while the young Pulisic has had some rumors linking him to a move away from Germany.

The 19-year old has already proven to be the best American soccer player by being the only one who put in a decent effort in USA’s failed World Cup qualifying campaign. He has stepped into a normal starting role at Dortmund by playing 32 games in the Bundesliga last season. This move would benefit Dortmund, Chelsea, and American soccer if Pulisic turns into a superstar.

Chelsea would get a young superstar

Pulisic has the potential to be a great player one day. He already is on track to be the best American soccer player ever with his European track record at such a young age. Pulisic would improve his legacy further if he became an EPL player. Would he play a lot for Chelsea? Potentially.

If Sarri steps in as the new manager, the formation could change and Chelsea might utilize an attacking midfielder more. Pulisic is a natural attacking midfielder in the middle and can play a little on the wing. Hazard leaves, Pulisic could step into that role. It’s a downgrade yes, but long-term it might be the best option if Pulisic can live up to his high expectations.

In regards to American soccer, this would be huge. The US got a wake-up call when they didn’t qualify for the World Cup and their spot was taken by Panama, who conceded nine goals in their first two games. More Americans need to play in Europe to change the culture and Pulisic going to the league Americans watch the most outside of the MLS is a culture-changing move.

Dortmund striker duo deadly with Morata and Batshuayi

Dortmund is attempting to permanently sign Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea and could add Alvaro Morata to that mix. This should be Dortmund’s top priority this summer to help create a great strikeforce that could take them far in the Champions League.

The Black & Yellow probably won’t win the Bundesliga next season, but Morata and Bats give them a much better chance to compete for the Bundesliga and to be a quarterfinalist or semifinalist in the Champions League. The two strikers make an excellent partnership and they could take pressure off of Marco Reus to score. Reus could provide more and so could Shinji Kagawa.

This swap seems one-sided now because Pulisic isn’t at the current goalscoring level as Morata. If this swap does happen, the winner of it will be determined by how Pulisic’s career will pan out. Some American soccer fans would become Chelsea fans if Pulisic goes to Stamford Bridge.
