The former Chelsea captain played just one season for Aston Villa. Terry could still make a return to the EPL to help out a mid-table team or go overseas.

Aston Villa defender John Terry will be leaving the club after just one season in the claret. Terry signed with Villa after 19 seasons with Chelsea, in which he won five Premier League titles. Aston Villa failed to earn promotion back in the EPL. Fulham defeated Villa 1-0 in the playoff final.

Terry will enter 2018-19 as a 37-year old centerback and a legend of the game. With a whole crop of players in his generation retiring or leaving their main clubs, Terry could be faced with a big decision. For me, it’s between two decisions if he wants to keep playing.

Decision 1: Play for a mid-level EPL side

Terry doesn’t have the legs anymore to be a Chelsea centerback. His days of being dominant in the blue are long gone, but his experience could be utilized by a team looking to improve on last season or stay up in the Premier League.

Teams that come to mind include West Ham, Newcastle, Fulham, or even Everton. EPL sides should see his availability as a chance to sign a legend who knows about the grueling task of the EPL season and what it takes to be successful in the league. I personally would enjoy seeing him back in the Premier League.

Decision 2: Go play in Asia or America

EPL is the best option if Terry wants to play meaningful football with the few years he has left in his playing career. If he wants the big bucks, Japan or China is the obvious decision. Andres Iniesta just left Barcelona and signed for the Japanese side Vissel Kobe. The deal is worth ¥3 billion a year, which is roughly $27 million or £20 million.

Terry could make that money easy if he signed in one of the big Asian leagues. If he isn’t concerned about money and still wants to be one of the best defenders in his league, the MLS would make the most sense.

John Terry would be one of the best defenders in the MLS if he signed and flew to America. I could see the likes of the New York Red Bulls, Columbus Crew, or LAFC signing him. They could all use a centerback and a big name to draw more fans.

Next: Jorginho to sign with Man City soon

In conclusion, John Terry is still good enough to play football somewhere. I think he should go back to his home in England and play in the EPL. He could still give a team a boost in the standings with his winning mentality.
