Manchester City is trying to get a fast start to the summer transfer window. It looks like they will secure Jorginho in the next few days.

Napoli midfielder Jorginho will likely be signed by Manchester City. City and Napoli have agreed to the fee and the personal terms have been agreed upon as well. Jorginho would be Manchester City’s first signing of the summer transfer window. The Citizens are also actively seeking the services of Riyad Mahrez.

Who is Jorginho?

The 26-year old Brazilian midfielder has spent his entire career in Italy since 2010. Before going to Napoli, Jorginho played four seasons in three different Italian divisions. As a Hellas Verona player, he spent his first year on loan with Serie C side Sambonifacese before playing three years with Hellas Verona.

He helped Verona earn promotion to Serie A in 2012-13 and made an impression in his first season in Italy’s first division. He scored seven times in 18 appearances and led Verona to a tenth place finish for the 2013-14 season.

Jorginho was then signed by Napoli and has played five successful seasons with the club. In his Napoli career, he has made 133 appearances and took more of a defensive midfield role. He has also played six caps for Italy, who failed to qualify for this summers World Cup.

His journey has been spectacular as a player. Just eight years ago, he was lacing up in Serie C. Now, he could be a key piece for the defending Premier League champions.

Man City is trying to become the deepest roster in Europe.

Winning the EPL was simple for the Citizens. They broke every record in the book to win the title. The goal now for Man City is to maintain a Premier League dynasty and win their clubs first ever Champions League.

With the current roster, Guardiola couldn’t lead his team past the quarterfinals. The central midfield depth is lacking slightly for the Citizens with Fernandinho climbing up in age and Yaya Toure leaving the club for good.

Jorginho will add youth in that position and his Champions League experience with Napoli can really help Man City get past the semifinals and to the UCL final next spring in Madrid. If City added Mahrez too, they should be considered a favorite to dethrone Real Madrid in Europe’s biggest competition.
