English Premier League: Only two matches for Saturday of Matchday 35
Two fixtures grace our teles today, with the FA Cup semifinals in full swing. With Saturday so empty, Sunday is packed with action an extra fixture.
The two fixtures taking place has a mixer of top and bottom of the table teams. One team plays to sign off their season’s work in trying to qualify in their second consecutive season in a Champions League spot.
The other two fight their relegation fight, one for pride and the other with a good chance of survival and an opportunity to pile on the pressure, for others around them. The one on the upper end of the table not fighting for a UCL spot, plays to achieve their highest ever finish in a Premier League season.
Safe to say… The two games are filled with incentives on either end of the pitch – making it a great day of football. Will results flow with the direction of the wind? Or will it fly against the wind and hand us more upsets?
West Brom vs. Liverpool
The biggest upset from Matchday 34 came from the Baggies, who were rewarded for the most disciplined performance to date. Will it happen again, or will it be a different outcome against a side they already knocked out the FA Cup?
Showcasing, upsets are the Baggies’ special power.
However, the team they playing this weekend has the top goal scorer and a manager who doesn’t like to fail more than once to the same team – not saying he won’t. With the match taking place at the Hawthorns, it could very well be in the balance.
Three points for the home side means they stay at the bottom but can have a BIG hand in knocking around those fighting for a top-four finish. For the team visiting – they can secure a spot in the UCL without having to worry after, because of their points and how many games are left.
No pressure for both sides, but we all know – pride is as good and meaningful as three points. They will play to win it. One team will try to soak up the phases. The other will try to apply the pressure layer by layer.
Match time: 12:30
Venue: The Hawthorns Stadium
Score prediction: West Brom 1-2 Liverpool
Watford vs. Crystal Palace
Five points in the clear from Southampton and three points away from 12th place Watford is what Palace’s situation at the moment. No rest for the London side as they try to inch closer to safety and finish in the highest possible position after a bad start to the campaign.
Watford has been a bit above average at their home venue. They’ve managed to get some good results off top teams during their league spell. They will want to take all the points today, as they look to turn around whatever has gone on at Vicarage Road.
The last time these two clubs met – Watford fell to a small elapse in defence and paid the price. They were beaten 1-0 by the team visiting them today. Have they got what it takes to change their fortune?
Yes, they definitely have the firepower and personal to send Palace home with no points. But Roy’s men won’t be handing it over. Wilfried Zaha has shown his importance again and gives the visitors all the hope needed to succeed.
This will be a great contest later on today.
