Matchday 34 is a day away from starting. What Matchday 34 means is we’ve hit the final lap, and have already passed the final bend of the race towards the finish line.

The sad reality is that after this weekend’s action concludes, the English Premier League will be four games away from the final day. Twelve points is all that there is left to play for in these four games.

Twelve points collected could be the equivalent of 100 points for some teams, who are in the fight to beat relegation. For others, it’s just a few more points that can secure what they already have.

Three days of action from Saturday to Monday. A great match to kick-start the weekend, and a big bottom-of-the-table battle to end the proceedings of Matchday 34 in the English Premier League in Monday Night Football.

What more could one possibly need in such a busy weekend of fixtures.

Southampton vs. Chelsea

The reverse fixture involving these two clubs saw Chelsea walk away with a narrow 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. Back then there was a different man sitting at the Saints’ helm, so maybe something different could be on the cards.

Chelsea has been extremely poor across their last five Premier League fixtures. They’ve only managed one win and lost three in those five. Conte comes off the back of a disappointing draw to West Ham, making matters worse – the draw was dealt at the Bridge.

Although, in saying this, what settles the nerves for the travelling Blues is the fact Southampton has been more dismal in their last 19. The home side has everything to play for and a Premier League spot to lose. Will Mark Hughes and his men build on the two goals scored in their loss to Arsenal the weekend past?

Chelsea have to lift their game and end on a strong note. They are well out of reach for anything. The only way they’d make it now is if their final fixtures involved match fixing, or miracle work.

Otherwise, Europa League is calling the Blues.
