Even with all the snow falling, Man United put on a better display for the home faithfuls when they capped off a well-contested, two goal victory over surprise package, Brighton.

The match saw end-to-end action from the first whistle to the final whistle. Mata and co were too much up front for the Seagulls and return – Romero was a splitting image of first choice, David de Gea.

Lukaku was the man to open the game with his 25th of the season and his fifth in the FA Cup. The passing, movement, and overall gameplay was worthy of a Cup semifinal for Jose Mourinho. Chris Hughton’s men started the second half fresher than United, but were no match for an inform goalkeeper.

Matic was the hero of the day and the second midfielder to lead his team to victory over their opponents. Assisting the first and scoring the second was enough to see the result out and book accommodation in the final four.

One goal from open play and one goal from a set piece – ensures improvements on the pitch for Jose’s men.

Wigan Athletic 0-2 Southampton

Southampton doubted the most in this fixture – pulled off a win against a side who knocked out Premier League leaders, Manchester City. Mark Hughes made good on a debut showing with his new Saints team.

Will Grigg, the FA Cup top scorer was unable to put his mark on the game and was silenced by a stable defensive display by the Saints. The first half ended scoreless but to the visitors satisfaction. They had everything to take from the goalless first half.

Højbjerg was the unlikely goal scorer and the man who put Hughes in front. A goal from a set piece and a late goal on the counter was all the Welsh manager needed to get an outstanding result to help build his team’s confidence in a tougher challenge – when they fight for Premier League survival.

Great start for the ex-Stoke City manager!
