Man City have not been shy this transfer window and have armed themselves with the most expensive defence in the world.

Knowing Manchester City, it was not a surprise to see them splash the cash on top players to secure a wounded defence that have been under construction since his arrival.

Pep’s plans were to work from the keeper up, which is why he brought in Claudio Bravo. My thought is that Claudio Bravo should be first choice for the season. But, Ederson has a better chance of starting.

I think Pep was right to start from his defence because that was one of the problems Man City encountered last campaign. However, Pep is not finished with his renovation of City’s squad. There will be a number of players that Pep will be aiming for in January. Namely, Sanchez, who we all know has been on the ropes with Wenger.

With this newly rebuilt back line, it leaves Pep with a safe dependable defence that can win balls. I think if City’s key players stay healthy and perform to their full potential, they will have a good chance at the league.

Sane, De Bruyne, and Aguero are all looking to keep their stellar form that can challenge Chelsea for the title. One player that will look to make a big difference is Bernardo Silva.

It will be interesting to see how Pep uses him in the squad and how he will contribute to the quick counter-attacks they are so used to doing.

I will outline the following procedures that Pep is likely to follow;

Interplay:

City have players with vision. David Silva for example, a veteran central-midfielder who is coming off an impressive World Cup Qualifiers campaign.

They will look to use him and Gundogan to send  the attackers forward-balls to push the play upwards and then pass back to middle of the park where Silva or De Bruyne can pick up the ball and tic-tac along the 18-yard box.

This is also where the strikers can pick up the ball and strike.

Through balls:

This is one of the most cliche tactic you could name but, don’t count it out. I’m not saying you should launch balls forward and hope for the best. You should play the smart pass and have your strikers hold the ball once they bring it up the pitch.

This is where Man City are most dangerous. They have fast wingers and strikers so why not use what you have. However, through balls used often will not work as experienced defenders will adapt to it and shut you down.

Another thing Man City are aiming to do this coming season is not to concede. Next season I predict Pep will look for some more attacking options but for now the dream Manchester City is almost built.
