Goalkeeper and Defenders

West Ham‘s Adrian is scheduled to be a free agent in the summer. The Spaniard has been good for the Hammers since signing, ironically, on a free transfer back in 2013. Although, the goalkeeper has started this season poorly, much like the entire West Ham defense. Regardless, Adrian is the goalkeeper in this XI.

At right back is Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia. The Ecuadorian has an option for a further year. But as of right now, Valencia will be a free agent come the summer. United have been inconsistent so far this season, however, Valencia would make for a solid pickup for somebody if he leaves Old Trafford.

Centre-back is filled by two veterans in John Terry of Chelsea and Per Mertesacker of Arsenal. Both severely lack pace and mobility at this point in their careers. But both also have good positioning and experience to make up for that.

Mertesacker is out injured currently, and will struggle to get back into the Arsenal team ahead of new signing Shkodran Mustafi. The German has said recently that he will consider his options come January.

Meanwhile, Terry is still important for Chelsea, as their awful defense has shown whilst he has been sidelined with injury. The Chelsea captain nearly left last summer, though, so this summer will probably be another waiting game to see what happens.

At left back is Gael Clichy. The Frenchman is facing an uphill battle to earn a new deal at Manchester City, but he gets into this free agency XI. Clichy has always been lightening fast, but as he advances into his thirties, his dwindling pace will be a problem.
