  1. Ruben Neves (Porto) to Chelsea

The transfer doctrine of Chelsea seems to be if you can’t beat em’, buy em’.

When Chelsea got manhandled by FC Basel in the Champions League, they bought one of their standout attackers in Mohammed Salah. When Chelsea was defeated by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, they purchased their striker, Diego Costa. Chelsea was recently beaten by FC Porto and who are they targeting? Their blue-chip defensive midfielder Ruben Neves.

A number of papers have speculated that the 18-year-old Porto starlet could be Bridge bound in the summer, with a transfer tag somewhere in the neighbourhood of £20+ million.

The move comes with some surprise. Some of the criticism Chelsea has received has  been due to their lack of a midfield presence. Jose Mourinho has (perhaps unfairly) dropped Nemanja Matic due to his performances in the last few outings, while his midfield partner Cesc Fabregas has looked like a ghost in his slot.

Should the move go through it asks the question what will happen to rising Chelsea prospect, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, a young man who has shown a great deal of promise in his defensive midfield deployments.
