The Premier League’s Best Summer Signings… So Far
Petr Cech — Former Club: Chelsea — New Club: Arsenal
Making the move from one London club to the other is liable to cause much bad blood. While Chelsea supporters will likely be torn between supporting Petr Cech — their longtime goalkeeper — and hating him, Arsenal supporters will be thrilled with the arrival of the number 33.
Arsenal struggled last season at goalkeeper. While both David Ospina and Wojciech Szczęsny were solid in goal last season, the club needed more to compete at the top of the Premier League.
Adding the longtime Premier League goalkeeper Petr Cech is a sizable improvement for the Gunners. Though the Czech Republic international has not played consistent first team minutes in over a year, an ever improving Arsenal will allow Cech to thrive during his time at Emirates Stadium.
The fee payed by the Gunners is believed to be in the £10.9 million range, though the official terms have not been disclosed. Cech will also be making £100,000-a-week at Arsenal, making him the highest payed goalkeeper in Premier League history.
