Paris St Germain Fixture With Lyon Is Simply Critical

In what Laurent Blanc has deemed a critical week, Paris St Germain are coming to the end of it Sunday when they take on Olympique de Lyonnais.

The Capital club are reigning French champions but look to revert the tables in France by knocking Lyon off their 1st place pedastool and closin the gap in points. Paris, who sit in third with 47 points, are only 3 points behind Lyon who sit atop Ligue 1 with 49.

Alexandre Lacazette will not be joining Les Gones on Sunday as he has been ruled out with a thigh injury. Paris will be equipped in full force, but without the fortunate creativity of Javier Pastore who is also ruled out with injury.

Hubert Fournier’s men have dipped in sensation since the loss of their incredible prospect Lacazette and could become victims against Laurent Blanc’s men who are determined to reign Ligue 1 for a third year in a row.

Surely Les Parisians have been in anything but good form, but as critical times begin to close in on the Capital, negativity with supporters and an overall sense of tensions, their urgency to regain glory has never been higher. With a 3 point claim in victory, Paris can be level with Lyon.

With Olympique de Marseille sustaining a tie result against Stade Rennes on Saturday, Paris can overcome their influence with 3 points to their 1 gained in victory.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been a pint point of conversation since his return from injury, as the Swede has been struggling to find insistent form. In replacement his antics against journalists and commentary about fans has been a negative dart in the hearts of supporters.

It is a frustrating time for the club, a league climb could certainly solve their attitudes. But regardless of Zlatan’s goal drought, Laurent Blanc is confident that his place in the pitch is growing in a better direction.

"“I think that Ibra likes to play in a playmaker role,” Blanc told a press conference on Saturday. I remember what he did against Benfica last year, he played almost in position of a No.10. He’s a striker, of course, but he also can do other things. He has great vision and excellent technical attributes.” (Via Goal.com)"

  • Blanc also commented on the necessity of Sunday’s match at the Stade de Garland is for the club. As his attitude should be, supporters will only see if the attitude prevails on the pitch come match day.

"“It’s an important game, yes, but not decisive. You will see that the others ones will be as important. Lyon only have the League [to play]… this gives them an advantage with respect to the match preparation and recovery. But we will go to Lyon with great ambition.”(via Goal.com)"
