Zlatan Ibrahimovic “Disapoinnted” By Fans Whistling At Parc des Princes
After Paris St Germain’s 1-0 victory against Stade Rennes on Friday, Zlatan Ibrahimovic took to the media to defend his side in an effort to silence fans and critics. The talisman is not shy of being outspoken nor is the Swede very concerned who he may offend in the process. This trait is what makes him a fan favourite, but also under the umbrella of arrogant.
This is not to say that Zlatan’s arrogance is frustrating for the onlooker, in fact I believe it makes his likability much greater in relation to fans, as he becomes their unfiltered voice. After the match at the Parc des Princes where Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot were both incredibly jeered and whistled at by their homes fans, Zlatan took it upon himself to address the disappointment of his supporters. Admirable on his part, but often abrasive as well.
As reported by Goal.com, Ibra did not hold back.

"“I’m disappointed. We played a very good game and we won, so I do not understand. We do not understand what people want. Whether we win or lose, people whistle! Maybe they have the habit of eating caviar before we come? As the press must have noticed, we are more confident in our game. We are playing more like we have to. We did not score a lot of goals, but the most important thing is to register one more than the opponent and win.The goal scored was amazing, probably the best since this season began. Personally, I feel very good. I hit a lot of through-balls tonight and I tried to create opportunities for my team. Now we must just focus on us. Obviously Marseille and Lyon are there fighting for the title too, but if we play as we know how, I’m not worried.”(via Goal.com)"
The talisman makes a fair point in his rebuttal when he addresses the enormous expectations of fans. Paris have won their last 5 matches and are finally cruising towards being level with first place Olympique de Lyonnais, what more can fans ask for? But what Zlatan fails to understand is that it has taken a great deal to get there. Fans will never know the pressures and difficulties athletes and teams experience in the time between their weekly match ups, but in this case, excuses are shallow.
The responsibilities of atheltes are not common to the average fan. But with ample talent like Paris St Germain, it is difficult to excuse complacency. Stade Rennes were sitting at 10th place prior to their match at the Parc des Princes, displaying the simplicity of a win for Paris. But the club still struggled to find a solid performance as a whole.
In some cases, and it is true with PSG, fans become heavily expectant of perfection. The club has been decorated well in the past two years thanks to the rich roster, but it is clear that financial causes isn’t always the answer to results. Fans naturally expect a better display of play, regardless of their understanding of the clubs internal problems.
On the other hand, it is noble of Zlatan to defend the clubs integrity. He is bringing the brigade back down to earth and asking for their paitence, as we all know we can rely on the Swede for results, even if it takes time. A hopeful lesson should be made in Zlatan’s comment, as his following is the greatest of all in the club.
