Arsenal have now amassed 3 red cards so far this season in the Premier League, in only 8 games. For some fans its an agenda, others a character issue stemming from coaching staff. Whatever is it, Arsenal must learn to keep a level head if they want a chance to win the Premier League this season.
After last weekend's loss against Bournemouth, Arsenal is the center of attention surrounding a more red card controversy. Whether the controversy and noise are coming from fans or media, the issue remains - 3 reds cards in just 8 Premier League matches, on a weekend where Liverpool and Manchester City grab all 3 points in their respective games, will these disciplinary issues come back to haunt them in the hunt for the title?
With a sloppy back pass from Leandro Trossard, William Saliba is faced with a difficult decision, one he had to make in an instant and do so with confidence or Evanilson is away on goal against an, admittedly decent, one-on-one goalkeeper in David Raya. Saliba brings the attacker down, near midfield, just in Arsenal's half, and eventually, the red card is shown to the Arsenal defender. This was in minute 30, in a match where Arsenal were struggling a bit to break Bournemouth down.
The main argument that has made the rounds, is a similar situation with Tosin Adarabioyo of Chelsea, making an almost identical challenge, and only receiving a yellow card. Consistency, again, coming into question from the refs in the Premier League.
Irrespective of the decision, the three games that Arsenal have received red cards in, have resulted in 7 points left unclaimed. A draw against Brighton, a draw against Manchester City, and a loss this past weekend against Bournemouth.
WIth Liverpool now on the horizon for the best match of the weekend, Arsenal will be without their best defender as they try and cope with Mohamed Salah and co. in an effort to try and stay with the mighty Reds and Manchester City near the top of the Premier League table. Their lineup will definitely look different, but Arsenal must find a way to get a result. Keeping all 11 men on the pitch for 90 minutes would be a solid place to start.
