Manchester United have lost four of their last six visits to the London Stadium, including both of the last two, meaning West Ham are aiming to collect a third successive home win over the Red Devils for the first time since 1977; will they achieve it?

West Ham United vs Manchester United Preview

Fair to say, neither of these two clubs have made great starts to this season, so who will avoid a crisis, for a few days at least, with victory in the capital? Manchester United start the weekend 12th, likely to kick off even lower, despite beating Brentford 2-1 last weekend, coming from behind to do so, thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund. Then, on Thursday night, Erik ten Hag's endured a third successive draw in the Europa League, taking the lead through Christian Eriksen in İstanbul, only to concede shortly after half time at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, as the points were shared with Fenerbahçe.

This, embarrassingly, leaves Man United 21st in the Europa League table, under pressure to beat both PAOK and Bodø/Glimt at Old Trafford in November. Before then of course, the Red Devils desperately need Premier League points too, but their recent-record in London is horrendous. Since January 2022, Man United have won only two of 17 away league games in the capital, losing ten and failing to score in seven of these matches, so can they collect a much-needed three points at the London Stadium?

West Ham United meantime need to bounce-back, following last Saturday's 4-1 humbling at the hands of fierce rivals Tottenham. Mohammed Kudus exerted plenty of main character energy in North London, scoring the opening goal, before being sent off for slapping not one but two Spurs players, far from helping their cause.

Julen Lopetegui's team had smashed Ipswich 4-1 prior to the international break, but are back at square one, down in 15th place, with the Hammers faithful still very unsure about their new boss. Well, a memorable win over Man United would certainly help silence those doubters, so can the Irons add to the Red Devils' never-ending misery?

West Ham United vs Manchester United Head-to-Head Record

  • Matches Played: 154
  • West Ham Wins: 48. Draws: 32. Manchester United Wins: 74.

West Ham United Team News

As alluded to, Mohammed Kudus will be suspended for three games, while Niclas Füllkrug remains sidelined, meaning Crysencio Summerville could come into the attack. If Julen Lopetegui wants so tinker with his midfield, both Edson Álvarez and Carlos Soler offer good alternatives, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be eager to impress, up against the side he departed this summer.

West Ham United predicted lineup vs Manchester United: (4-2-3-1): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Álvarez, Souček, Paquetá, Bowen, Summerville; Antonio.

West Ham United Player to Watch vs Manchester United

Jarrod Bowen has scored in both of West Ham's wins so far, against Crystal Palace and Ipswich, while he opened the scoring during the 2-0 victory over Man United last December, hoping to repeat the trick.

Manchester United Team News

Captain Bruno Fernandes will be fresh, having not even travelled to İstanbul due to suspension, but Antony was taken off on a stretcher in mid-week, so is set for a spell on the sidelines. At the back, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and now Jonny Evans are all out, but Noussair Mazraoui could return to a more familiar full-back role, having filled-in as a number ten on Thursday. Elsewhere, Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount are both still injured, while Rasmus Højlund will return to lead the attack from the start, displacing Joshua Zirkzee.

Manchester United predicted lineup vs West Ham United: (4-2-3-1): Onana, Dalot, de Ligt, Martínez, Mazraoui; Ugarte, Eriksen, Fernandes; Garnacho, Rashford, Højlund.

Manchester United Player to Watch vs West Ham United

Marcus Rashford has scored five career goals against West Ham, only on target against six clubs more frequently, three goals coming at three different stadiums.

West Ham United vs Manchester United Prediction

We're forecasting a bit of an upset here, with West Ham, once again, beating Man United at home. Erik ten Hag's team will not have had any preparation time, given that they were in İstanbul as recently as Thursday night, flying back for over four hours, while their depleted squad means many players will be forced to go again and we can see the Hammers taking advantage: West Ham United 2-1 Manchester United.
