Having won the reverse fixture 1-0 in December, Bournemouth are seeking back-to-back victories over Tottenham for the first time ever; the Cherries have lost six of their seven clashes with Spurs in North London, but were 3-2 winners in N17 two seasons.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bournemouth Preview

After a very disappointing defeat in mid-week, Tottenham Hotspur are under massive pressure to claim victory here. On Thursday evening, Ange Postecoglou's team were beaten 1-0 by AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie at AFAS Stadion. Lucas Bergvall's rather freakish own goal separates the sides at present, but it was the fact Spurs offered very little going forward that is certainly the most concerning, ahead of next Thursday's return leg.

Given that Tottenham are 13th in the Premier League, ten points adrift the final potential European spot, they're very much looking to the Europa League to salvage this season, making exiting in the round of 16 unthinkable. Back in the league, the Lilywhites did enjoy three successive wins last month, before a 1-0 defeat at he hands of Man City saw them come crashing right back down to earth. Spurs have already been beaten seven times in front of their own supporters in the league this season, and yet another defeat would only crank the pressure up on Postecoglou even further.

As for Bournemouth, they're very much in the hunt to get into Europe for the very first time in the club's entire history. The Cherries start the weekend seventh, ten points better off than their hosts, despite the fact they've suffered back-to-back league defeats, beaten by Wolves and then Brighton.

Nevertheless, Andoni Iraola's side will travel to the capital in high spirits, after reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals last weekend. Evanilson marked his return from injury with a goal, but Bournemouth were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves at Dean Court, before ultimately prevailing on penalties, with Luis Sinisterra converting the decisive spot-kick. So, having had over a week to prepare for this game, compared to Spurs who were in the Netherlands on Thursday, would an away win be an upset?

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Given that the Europa League has to be the priority, it'll be intersting to see how Ange Postecoglou approaches this one. Dominic Solanke came on against AZ, his first appearance since 15 January, but was then forced off just 18 minutes later, so is a doubt to face his former side.

Meantime, both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were unused substitutes in Alkmaar, neither have been seen in the Premier League since 8 December, so will either make their eagerly-anticipated return? Radu Drăgușin and Richarlison are sidelined long-term, while Dejan Kuluševski is a doubt due to a foot injury.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bournemouth Prediction

As alluded to earlier, we are backing Bournemouth for victory. The Cherries will be significantly fresher, while Spurs are likely to be both jaded and distracted by their Europa League commitments, considering this comes in the middle of such a pivotal tie: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Bournemouth.
