Tottenham Hotspur vs AZ Alkmaar - Europa League: TV channel, prediction, team news and lineups
By Ben Gray
Tottenham have won 11 of 21 previous meetings with Dutch opposition, beating six different Eredivisie outfits in their European history, so can they add AZ to this list on Thursday?
Tottenham Hotspur vs AZ Alkmaar Preview
Can Tottenham Hotspur make it three wins out of three in this season's UEFA Europa League? Back on matchday one, despite seeing Radu Drăgușin sent off after just seven minutes, Spurs still managed to swat aside Qarabağ 3-0 at home. A week later, Ange Postecoglou's team battled to a 2-1 victory in Budapest, with both Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson, as they had been seven nights earlier, on target during a 2-1 victory over Ferencváros.
Thus, Spurs are one of only five clubs in the Europa League currently on maximum points, alongside Lazio, Lyon, FCSB and Anderlecht, with the Lilywhites amongst the favourites to hoist this trophy aloft for the third time on 21 May. At the weekend, the feel-good factor returned to Tottenham as they came from a goal down to smash rivals West Ham 4-1, with Dejan Kuluševski, Yves Bissouma and Son Heung-min all on target. This made it six wins from their last seven outings, that capitulation at Brighton the exception, with most making Spurs strong favourites to prevail here too.
So, are AZ Alkmaar capable of springing a massive surprise? Well, Maarten Martens's team have made a mixed start to this campaign, beating Elfsborg 3-2 in their opener, Troy Parrott converting a late penalty, before losing 2-0 at San Mamés by Athletic Club last time out. The Cheese Heads are featuring in a 16th UEFA group stage, getting all the way to the Conference League semi-finals just two seasons ago, their dreams shattered by West Ham, having been UEFA Cup runners-up all the way back in 1981, narrowly beaten 5-4 by Ipswich.
Right now, following three successive defeats, most-recently beaten 2-1 by PSV on Saturday, AZ have slipped down to fifth in the Eredivisie, with Martens, who's only been manager since January, a man under pressure. This will be AZ's eight visit to England, losing each and every one of the previous seven, with this trend highly-likely to continue at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News
Radu Drăgușin's red card against Qarabağ saw him sit out the win in Hungary suspended, but he can return here, affording either Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven a rest. Djed Spence signed a new four-year contract this week, but will not feature in this tournament, having been left out of Spurs' UEFA squad. James Maddison meantime was hooked at half time on Saturday, but is likely to start again, with Lucas Bergvall coming into midfield. Youngsters Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear both started away to Ferencváros, so the pair will be hoping hoping to see more action here, while Richarlison came off the bench at the weekend, his first appearance since 24 August due to injury.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs AZ Alkmaar: (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Gray, Drăgușin, Romero, Davies; Matar Sarr, Bergvall, Maddison, Johnson, Werner; Richarlison.
Tottenham Hotspur Player to Watch vs AZ Alkmaar
As Richarlison looks to build up his fitness, the Brazilian is set to lead the line, aiming to score for the first time since 5 May.
AZ Alkmaar Team News
Left-back David Møller Wolfe was sent off just ten minutes into Saturday's defeat at the hands of PSV, but is of course not suspended for this one. Club captain Bruno Martins Indi has made only two appearances this season due to injury, meaning Maxim Dekker could keep his place at centre-back. As a result Jordy Clasie, who was part of a Southampton team that won 2-1 at White Hart Lane in May 2016, will be donning the armband.
AZ Alkmaar predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (4-2-3-1): Owusu-Oduro; Maikuma, Penetra, Dekker, Møller Wolfe; Clasie, Koopmeiners, Sadiq, Mijnans, van Bommel; Parott.
AZ Alkmaar Player to Watch vs Tottenham Hotspur
Troy Parrott will receive a warm welcome back to Tottenham. He joined Spurs as a 15 year old, making only four appearances for the first team, sent out on loan to Millwall, Ipswich, Milton Keynes, Preston and Excelsior before leaving for AZ, who paid £6.7 million for his services, this summer. He's already scored six times for AZ, bagging four during September's 9-1 demolition of Robin van Persie's Heerenveen, so will Parrott come back to haunt his old side?
Tottenham Hotspur vs AZ Alkmaar Prediction
We're fully expecting Spurs to cruise to victory. Tottenham are in great form right now, especially at home, while AZ are not as strong as they once were, meaning their record of having lost every single visit to England is extremely likely to continue: Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 AZ Alkmaar.
