The Premier League team of the month: Who made the XI?
The team reads as: Matz Sels; Aaron-Wan Bissaka, Nathan Collins, Ethan Pinnock, Josko Gvardiol; Casemiro, Facundo Buoananotte, Mikkel Damsgaard; Bryan Mbuemo, Chris Wood, Matheus Cunha;
No doubt that Wood will be in contention for the Premier League player of the month, with the striker scoring four goals in three games in October. His goals helped Forest to an impressive seven points from those three games, including an impressive point against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
It was a very strong month for Damsgaard, who recorded four assists in three games – Brentford would have been four points fewer off without these contributions.
Team mate Mbuemo scored three goals in three games, including a dramatic last minute winner against Ipswich Town in their final game of the month.
Elsewhere, Buonanotte was the highest rated player, with his goals against Bournemouth and Southampton helping Leicester City to another four points.
In defence, Gvardiol had a brilliant month. The defender has had more touches than anyone else in the final third so far in the Premier League. His banger with his right-foot in the game at Wolves helped City on their way to an important three points in a poor team performance.
Casemiro has been doing all he can to try and disprove the claims that he is finished at the top level. The midfielder had a huge performance in the win over Brentford, and scored against West Ham United, in what turned out to be Erik Ten Hag’s final game in charge of United.
Compatriot Cunha had another strong month, despite Wolves struggling at the foot of the league. The 25-year old scored twice, one against Brentford and the dramatic late equaliser against Brighton and Hove Albion, which gave Wolves a priceless point against all odds.
