Bournemouth are seeking a third successive victory over Southampton despite winning two of their previous 16 encounters. On the other hand, the Cherries have won both of their last two visits to St Mary's Stadium.
Southampton vs Bournemouth Preview
A fortnight ago, the Cherries saw their 11-match unbeaten streak, a new club record in the top-flight, end. They were narrowly beaten 2-0 by run-away league-leaders Liverpool at Dean Court.
This was the first defeat Andoni Iraola's side had suffered since 23 November, winning seven of those 11 matches. Hence, Bournemouth are seventh in the table, just one point adrift of a Champions League spot.
Last weekend, Bournemouth reached the FA Cup fifth round by beating Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park. An emphatic and pretty unique Antoine Semenyo penalty broke the deadlock before Daniel Jebbison scrambled home a second from close-range. This result saw them through to round five for just the fourth time in 36 years.
So now, as the Cherries make the short 27-mile journey across the South Coast, most expect them to claim another victory on the road.
Southampton secured just their second Premier League win of the entire season two weeks ago, beating Ipswich 2-1 at Portman Road. Joe Aribo's volley broke the deadlock before Paul Onuachu bundled in a late winner, sparking wild scenes of celebration.
Beforehand, Ivan Jurić had lost all six matches as a Premier League manager despite improved performances. That said, this does little to increase the Saints' chances of survival as they are still ten points from safety. Now they need only one more victory to avoid beating Derby's lowest-ever points tally, which is something.
Last time out, Southampton were beaten 1-0 by Championship high-fliers Burnley in the FA Cup, and the second-tier is very much where the Saints are heading back to, ill-equipped to compete at this level, or indeed just in this South Coast affair at St Mary's.

Southampton Team News
Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Jack Stephens, Juan Larios, Ryan Fraser and Ross Stewart are all injured. Armel Bella-Kotchap is still awaiting his first appearance since August, unexplainably under-utilised by both Russell Martin and now Ivan Jurić.
Aaron Ramsdale will return in goal. Paul Onuachu will lead the line, and January signing Albert Grønbæk could return to the lineup, having debuted at Ipswich. Flynn Downes is one booking away from a two-match ban, albeit he's doubtful due to a knock anyway.
Southampton predicted lineup vs Bournemouth: (5-4-1): Ramsdale; Walker-Peters, Bree, Bednarek, Welington, Manning; Ugochukwu, Fernandes, Dibling, Grønbæk; Onuachu.
Southampton Player to Watch vs Bournemouth
Tyler Dibling has been Southampton's most dangerous player this season, albeit he has just four goals to his name so far, so can the teenager add to his tally?
Bournemouth Team News
Bournemouth's remarkable form is made all the more impressive by their long list of absentees.
Marcos Senesi, Julián Araujo, James Hill, Adam Smith, Alex Scott, Luis Sinisterra, Evanilson and Enes Ünal are all sidelined.
Julio Soler is at the South American U-20 Championship, which concludes on Sunday. Andoni Iraola did rotate his team a bit in the FA Cup, bringing in fit-again Marcus Tavernier and inexperienced duo Ben Winterburn and Daniel Jebbison, who was recalled from a lacklustre loan spell at Watford in January due to the lack of available strikers.
However, the Cherries are likely to revert to the team that faced Liverpool, which would see David Brooks face his former side, while Dango Ouattara and Justin Kluivert would also return. Ryan Christie is one caution away from a two-match suspension.
Bournemouth predicted lineup vs Southampton: (4-3-3): Arrizabalaga; Cook, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Adams, Christie, Brooks, Kluivert, Semenyo; Ouattara.
Bournemouth Player to Watch vs Southampton
Justin Kluivert has 12 goals to his name this season, bagging hat-trick at both Wolves and Newcastle, seeking to net in a fourth successive Premier League appearance away from home.
Southampton vs Bournemouth Prediction
We cannot see beyond a very comfortable Bournemouth victory. The Cherries are in fine form, unbeaten in six on the road, while the Saints have shipped 22 goals during their last six home league games, a tally we're forecasting will rise on Saturday: Southampton 1-3 Bournemouth.
