In yet another weekend to celebrate, Mohamed Salah further cemented his name in Premier League history after the Matchday 24 with his two goals in the win over Bournemouth. The Egyptian top scorer has now reached the 21-goal mark, two goals more than Erling Haaland (Manchester City) this season.

With his two goals against Bournemouth, Salah reached 178 goals in Premier League history and left the legendary Frank Lampard behind in the list of all-time top scorers. If he keeps up his excellent goal average, Salah could even overtake Sergio Agüero (184) and Andrew Cole (187) by the end of the 2024/25 season.

"Salah factor" defines another Liverpool win this season

It's worth noting that Bournemouth started the match very well and pressurised Liverpool in the opening minutes. Gradually, the Reds evened things up, leaving the game very open with both goalkeepers working well. But the ‘Salah factor’ began to show in the 29th minute, converting a controversial penalty after Gakpo went down in the penalty area.

The second half was more marked by fouls (including four yellow cards in the first ten minutes after the break) and less space for players to move around, leaving the match with fewer chances to score.

However, in a decisive counter-attack in the 74th minute, Curtis Jones received a pass from Luis Díaz and opened up on the right for Salah to hit a left-footed shot, leaving Kepa with no chance of defence.

What did the win against Bournemouth mean for Liverpool?

The victory left Liverpool 53 points clear at the top of the Premier League, a result that also halted Bournemouth's incredible run since the start of the year. With a 1-0 lead, the Reds return to the field on Thursday for the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals against Everton.
