RB Leipzig vs Liverpool - Champions League: TV channel, prediction, team news and lineups
By Ben Gray
Arne Slot has made a near-flawless start to life as Liverpool manager, looking to make it eight successive victories in all competitions when they travel to Eastern Germany.
RB Leipzig vs Liverpool Preview
Will Liverpool's flawless start to this Champions League campaign continue? So far, the Reds have seen of a pair of Italian sides in this competition, first fighting back from a goal down to defeat A.C. Milan at San Siro, before Alexis Mac Allister and then Mohamed Salah were on target as they downed Bologna at Anfield.
Thus, Liverpool are one of only seven club currently on maximum points in this tournament, amongst the favourites to secure a top eight finish, even with both Bayer Leverkusen and then holders Real Madrid visiting Merseyside next month.
Nevertheless, there's no reason for Arne Slot's team not to go into every single game with supreme confidence, considering they made it ten wins out of 11 in all competitions on Sunday, thanks to a 2-1 home win over Chelsea; Curtis Jones the match-winner. Thus, the Reds will travel to Arsenal this forthcoming Sunday top of the table, but must deal with this tricky trip to Saxony first.
In complete contrast to their visitors, RB Leipzig are one of only eight sides in the Champions League yet to get a point on the board, which is a concern given that they've reached the last 16 in four of the last five seasons, albeit there's still six games to go.
Marco Rose's side have led in both fixtures to date, taking a very early lead through Benjamin Šeško in Madrid, only for Atleti to snatch a stoppage time winner. A fortnight later, thanks to a Šeško double, die Roten Bullen were 2-1 up at home to ten-man Juventus, seemingly set for victory, only to throw away the points, gifting two sloppy goals.
In the Bundesliga meantime, Leipzig are level with leaders Bayern Munich, notably ending Leverkusen's unbeaten streak with a 3-2 victory at BayArena in August, making it three successive victories, and five consecutive clean sheets, courtesy of a 2-0 victory at Mainz on Saturday. So, despite what their position in this gigantic league table may suggest, Leipzig cannot be taken lightly so, if Liverpool are to leave Red Bull Arena victorious, they're unlikely to do so easily.

RB Leipzig Team News
Marco Rose switched to a back three for only the third time this season at the weekend, so it'll be intersting to see if he sticks with that, or reverts to the classic Red Bull 4-2-2-2. Given that David Raum is sidelined due to an ankle injury, there's no obvious left-back option, with Antonio Nusa, a winger, filling-in there at Mainz. Regardless of system, Péter Gulácsi will be in goal; he spent five seasons at Liverpool, without ever making an appearance, shipped out on various loans to Hereford, Tranmere and Hull. At the other end of the field, Xavi Simons will be pulling the strings, alongside Benjamin Šeško and Loïs Openda, they form one of the most fearsome front threes in world football.
RB Leipzig predicted lineup vs Liverpool: (3-4-1-2): Gulácsi; Klostermann, Orbán, Lukeba; Geertruida, Haidara, Vermeeren, Nusa; Xavi Simons, Openda, Šeško.
RB Leipzig Player to Watch vs Liverpool
We've just mentioned him, but it's once again worth spotlighting Benjamin Šeško. The Slovenian has scored all three of Leipzig's Champions League goals this season, netting six times in total, to add to the 18 goals he scored last season. At international level, the 21 year old has already scored 15 times, putting him fifth on Slovenia's all-time scoring list already, including a hat-trick when Kazakhstan visited Ljubljana in September, so can he add to his ever increasing reputation with a goal here?
Liverpool Team News
The one sour note from Sunday's victory over Chelsea was the injury suffered by Diogo Jota, meaning he's extremely unlikely to feature here and also a doubt for this Sunday's visit to North London. Following long, arduous trips to South American, Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez were all kept in reserve at the weekend, from the start at least, but are all set to come into the team here, with Cody Gakpo the most-likely forward to make way. In goal, in Alisson's continued absence, Caoimhín Kelleher will make his 51st appearance for Liverpool, this being just his third in the Champions League. Both Ibrahima Konaté and and Dominik Szoboszlai will face their former employers from whence they came.
Liverpool predicted lineup vs RB Leipzig: (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Salah, Luis Díaz, Núñez.
Liverpool Player to Watch vs RB Leipzig
Mohamed Salah struck for the seventh time this season already on Sunday, taking his tally to 45 in the Champions League with a trademark curler against Bologna. He was previously on target during a pair of meetings with RB Leipzig three years ago, both played at Puskás Aréna in Budapest, crazy times, but you'd have to be brave to back against the Egyptian adding to his tally here too.
RB Leipzig vs Liverpool Prediction
We are backing Liverpool to collect three points in, what we're forecasting to be, a high-scoring affair. RB Leipzig have lost two of their last five European home games, despite only suffering defeat in two of the previous 17 beforehand, Meanwhile, the Reds have won six of their last seven against Bundesliga opposition, unbeaten in 12 dating back 22 years overall. In short, everything points towards an away win: RB Leipzig 1-3 Liverpool.
