The Premier League is approaching another January transfer window, and there will be no shortage of rumors surrounding incoming and outgoing players. Teams like Liverpool or even Chelsea might look at their position and believe they are just fine, without a need to spend money considering how well they are performing this year.
Other Premier League teams, such as Manchester City, Machester United, and even potentially Arsenal, could look at this window as an opportunity to get back to their best, to provide depth, or just bring in some healthy players. With that in mind, let's rank just a few of the rumors floating around this holiday seson:
1. Joshua Kimmich - Manchester City
Starting off with the club who will have no option but to do business this January - Manchester City. City have an injury crisis that dates back to when Rodri injured his ACL, and it has only gotten worse in the following months. Joshua Kimmich makes a lot of sense for the Premier League Champions.
Joshua Kimmich would be the perfect January transfer for Manchester City due to his exceptional versatility, technical ability, and tactical intelligence. Known for his intelligence in reading the game, Kimmich would seamlessly fit into City's dynamic midfield, offering much-needed defensive solidity that would allow City's more creative players to have their freedom once again.
His ability to play both as a holding midfielder and right-back would provide Pep Guardiola with an instant boost as somebody who could immediately go into the starting role as a holding midfielder. Kimmich's passing range and ability to control the tempo of the game would enhance City's possession-based style, while his leadership qualities and winning mentality would bolster the squad’s experience. Given Kimmich’s hunger for success and his track record with Bayern Munich, his arrival would give Manchester City an immediate upgrade in midfield and make them even more formidable in the race for domestic and European titles.
2. Marcus Rashford - Anywhere but Manchester United
Marcus Rashford was once one of the most highly talked about players for Manchester United, breaking onto the scene in dramatic fashion scoring against Premier League rivals Arsenal on his debut. He might still be the talk of the club but for very different reasons. He's publicly stated he is "ready for a new challenge", and I tend to agree.
Marcus Rashford needs a move away from Manchester United to revive his career and rediscover his full potential. Despite his undeniable talent and flashes of brilliance, Rashford has struggled to maintain consistent form under the current management (or any of the previous few), and his development has stagnated in recent years.
At Manchester United, he has often been played out of position or relied upon to carry the team during periods of uncertainty, which has led to burnout and frustration. A move to a club where he can play in his preferred role, with a more structured tactical setup, could allow him to regain his confidence and elevate his performance. A fresh start could be the key to unlocking the full promise he showed early in his career.
3. Milan Skriniar - Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs have a bit of a central defender crisis on their hands and will need reinforcements to try and remain on course in the Premier League. Milan Skriniar, who is being looked at by no fewer than 10 other clubs around Europe, would be an incredible get if they can pull it off.
Milan Skriniar would bring strength, leadership, and top-tier defensive ability to a backline that has often lacked consistency. Known for his physical presence, aerial dominance, and composure under pressure, Skriniar would provide Spurs with a reliable and commanding figure in the heart of defense.
His physicality would be a much-welcome trait in the Premier League, especially alongside the speed of Micky Van de Ven, once he returns from injury. His reading of the game and ability to intercept passes would complement Tottenham’s high defensive line, while his ball-playing skills would allow him to contribute to their build-up play from the back. Skriniar’s leadership qualities would also be invaluable, offering a steadying influence to a defense that has at times been prone to lapses in concentration.
These rumors were just a small glimpse into what Premier League fans are seeing, and there are sure to be many more rumblings surrouding most clubs in the Premier League table. Which rumors do you think have the most legs to get over the line in January?
