3. Tractor boys stall Bournemouth but still face uphill survival battle

With nine points separating the last safe spot from relegation, to have any chance to save themselves from the drop, Ipswich Town needed a win on Wednesday against a Bournemouth side who have dreams of European football next season.

Despite being on the back foot most of the match, Kieran McKenna's side took the win 2-1. Liam Delap and Nathan Broadhead scored for the visitors before Evanilson halved the deficit for the home side.

However, for Ipswich, the team in 17th, Wolves, had already won their game on Tuesday. In a match between 16th and 17th, Wolves got the better of West Ham at home 1-0. It was a sweet result for Vítor Pereira, who was unable to call up their talisman Matheus Cunha due to suspension.

As a result, despite the win, Ipswich Town remain nine points adrift of safety. Their form doesn't exactly suggest they have a real chance. Wednesday’s victory was their first league win of the year. It’s looking more and more likely they’ll have to try for another promotion next season. But with nine games remaining, all hope is not lost for the Tractor Boys.
