West Ham United get off the mark
By Tom Vinall
It was a seriously impressive win for West Ham, as they condemned fellow London side Crystal Palace to a 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park.
Palace lined up with; Dean Henderson; Chris Richards, Marc Guehi, Chadi Riad; Daniel Munoz, Adam Wharton, Jefferson Lerma, Tyrick Mitchell; Eberechi Eze; Odsonne Edouard, Jean-Philippe Mateta.
West Ham lined up with; Alphonse Areola; Vladimir Coufal, Konstantinos Mavrponas, Max Kilman, Emerson Palmeiri; Guido Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek; Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus; Michail Antonio.
Crystal Palace 0-2 West Ham: As it happened
It should have been the dream start for the visitors, as Antonio headed wide from point blank range after just four minutes.
Oliver Glasner's side should have taken the lead themselves after 25 minutes, when Eberchi Eze had a shot well saved by Alphonse Areola in the West Ham goal.
Eze then hit the post from just outside the box not long before the break, and it was a stalemate at half-time.
Half way through the second half, Tomas Soucek scored with a well taken left-footed finish. Just five minutes later, Jarrod Bowen doubled the lead for West Ham with an empthatic finish following a counter attack.
This result means it is two defeats from two for Crystal Palace to start their 24/25 Premier League campaign, having previously not lost since a defeat at home to Manchester City on the 6th of April.
They are clearly still trying to deal with the loss of star player Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich in the summer after the German giants activated the release clause in his Crystal Palace contract.
There are issues at the back too. Joachim Andersen, who was so important in their success at the back end of last season, rejoined Fulham after three seasons at Selhurst Park, whilst Marc Guehi looks like the interest from Newcastle United may be playing on his mind.
Meanwhile for West Ham, it was the perfect bounce back from their defeat to Aston Villa last weekend, getting their first win under new manager Julen Lopetegui. They face Manchester City next weekend, so if they hadn't won today, they may very well have gone into the international break winless.
