Striker on course to obliterate goal record
By Tom Vinall
After his hat-trick against West Ham United last weekend, Erling Haaland has now scored 70 Premier League goals in just 69 appearances in the competition since joining Manchester City back in the summer of 2022.
With these goals, Haaland now needs just 30 goals in 54 games to beat Alan Shearer's record as the least amount of games needed to score 100 goals in the competition.
Based on his current trajectory, the Norweigan striker should absolutely smash that record out of the park and then some. The record he sets will make it nigh on impossible to match or beat.
The hat-trick at the weekend also took Haaland's stats in the month of August to 19 goals in 11 Premier League games. Plus an assist on top. It was also his fourth match ball in August, having previously netted trebles against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Fulham.
Striker on course to obliterate goal record
His eight hat-tricks mean he has already scored the fourth most in Premier League history, level with the Thierry Henry, Michael Owen and Harry Kane. He only has four fewer than record holder Sergio Aguero's 12. All of this despite playing so many fewer games in the competition than said players.
The summer off, due to Norway not qualifying for the European Championships seems to have helped Haaland even more, even if it didn't feel possible. The sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid without a replacement means there is more of a workload on Haaland this season and Pep will be wanting to keep the big man in cotton wool whenever he can this season.
It is brave that City are going into the season without a direct back-up for him or Rodri, though they have coped well without the latter so far, unlike last season. The midfielder is expected to be back after the international break in any case.
What a phenomeon this man is, the only thing stopping him obliterating every record out there for City is any potential move further down the line. But for now, we get to enjoy this freak of nature in the Premier League.
