There's plenty to look forward to across the second weekend of this brand-new Premier League season, so we bring you five key facts and stats for all ten fixtures taking place this weekend.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United: Saturday 12:30pm
Brighton had won four consecutive Premier League meetings with Manchester United, prior to the Red Devils' 2-0 victory in Sussex on the final day of last season.
Since the Seagulls' promotion in 2017, Man United have lost four of seven league visits to the Amex.
Conversely, victory for Erik ten Hag's team would see the Red Devils start a campaign with back-to-back victories for the first time since 2017 under José Mourinho.
On the flip side, last weekend's 3-0 hammering of Everton in Fabian Hürzeler first match as Brighton boss means the Seagulls have won eight of their last 12 Premier League fixtures played in August.
After opening his account with the late winner against Fulham, a goal for Joshua Zirkzee would make him the first Man United player to score in their first two appearances for the club since Romelu Lukaku seven years ago.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton: Saturday 3pm
Tottenham Hotspur have won each of their last three home games against Everton, seeking to win four on the spin for the first time since 2005.
The Toffees did leave N17 victorious under Carlo Ancelotti during lockdown, but are winless in 14 visits to Spurs with fans in attendance, dating back to 2008.
Following their 3-0 humbling at the hands of Brighton on the opening day, the Blues are seeking to avoid back-to-back league defeats by a three-goal margin for the first time since September 2017, a sequence that featured a 3-0 hammering against Tottenham.
Sean Dyche's team failed to score in each of their first three matches 12 months ago, so are in danger of consecutive blanks in back-to-back games to start a campaign, something Evertonians hadn't previously endured since 1998.
Meantime, Spurs have won each of their last three home openers although, after Ange Postecoglou's side could only draw with Leicester on Monday night, Tottenham could fail to win either of their first two fixtures to commence a campaign for the first time in nine years.
Manchester City vs Ipswich Town: Saturday 3pm
Since his appointment two years ago, Kieran McKenna has taken charge of 92 league matches as Ipswich Town manager, yet to taste back-to-back defeats; following their 2-0 reverse at the hands of Liverpool last weekend, he'll do well to maintain that statistic!
Some hope for the traveling supporters: Ipswich have actually won six of their last seven league clashes with Manchester City, although a lot has changed since the pair last met in 2002.
These days, following their 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge last Sunday, the Sky Blues have now won ten consecutive Premier League games all by, at least, a two-goal margin.
The Citizens have won each of their last eight Premier League encounters with newly-promoted clubs, as well as nine on the spin at home, with Leeds in April 2021 the last such side to leave the Etihad with a positive result.
Across all competitions, Ipswich will become the 147th different club Pep Guardiola has faced as a manger, only failing to beat two: Celtic and Wigan Athletic.
Crystal Palace vs West Ham United: Saturday 3pm
Crystal Palace smashed West Ham 5-2 back in April, meaning they've won three of their last four encounters with the Hammers, seeking to go five unbeaten in this fixture for the first time in a decade.
At Selhurst Park, each of their last seven clashes have seen both teams score, with the last four witnessing 24 goals, an average of four per game, while following 4-3 and 5-2 victories, Palace are targeting three consecutive home wins over their London rivals for the first time since ever.
Last weekend's defeat to Aston Villa means the Hammers are without a clean sheet in 19 successive Premier League matches, dating back to a goalless draw with Brighton in early-January.
Fulham vs Leicester City: Saturday 3pm
Fulham have won their last two meetings with Leicester, most-recently smashing them 5-3 in May 2023, so are targeting three successive victories over the Foxes for the first time in 57 years.
Overall, Leicester have won only four of their 23 trips to Craven Cottage since 1952, most-recently prevailing by the River Thames in front of supporters in 1983.
Jamie Vardy bagged a brace during his first-ever league appearance against Fulham in 2019, but hasn't scored against them in three attempts subsequently; having bagged the equaliser against Spurs on Monday night, he is looking to score in the first two fixtures of a Premier League season for the first time ever.
Southampton vs Nottingham Forest: Saturday 3pm
Nottingham Forest did the league-double over Southampton when the pair last met two seasons ago, thereby seeking three successive victories in this fixture for the first time since 1996.
By the South Coast, Forest surprisingly have an imperious record, winning seven of their last ten visits to either the Dell or St Mary's, with Southampton claiming only one win in 12 home clashes since 1990.
Only twice since 2012 have the Saints started a season with back-to-back defeats, although they have not claimed victory in their Premier League home opener since 2017.
Meantime, since their most-recent promotion in 2022, Forest have won only five of 38 Premier League away games, although the first of those did come at St Mary's, while three of the five came over sides who would go on to be relegated.
Taiwo Awoniyi has scored three times in two career appearances against Southampton, the joint-most goals he's netted against any single opponent.
Aston Villa vs Arsenal: Saturday 5:30pm
Arsenal have lost three of their last five visits to Villa Park, despite being unbeaten in 17 outings there, dating back to 1998, immediately beforehand.
Following victory at the London Stadium, Aston Villa are seeking to start a Premier League campaign with back-to-back victories for only the second time since 1999, previously achieving this in 2020.
Meantime, the Gunners are aiming to commence three successive campaigns with back-to-back victories, despite only previously achieving this twice since 2009 beforehand.
Ollie Watkins has scored five career goals against Arsenal, only netting more frequently against Brighton.
William Saliba enjoyed his 50th Premier League win in Arsenal colours last weekend, doing so in just 66 appearances, a new club-record, achieving this four games quicker than Nacho Monreal.
Bournemouth vs Newcastle United: Sunday 2pm
Bournemouth have won just one of their last ten meetings with Newcastle, but this was a 2-0 victory when the pair last clashed at Dean Court back in November; before this, the Magpies were unbeaten in six trips to Dorset, dating back to 1989.
Having said that, Eddie Howe has never beaten his former employers in the Premier League in four attempts.
The Toon Army have not seen their side start a top-flight season with successive victories for 27 years but, following victory over Southampton, they're on the cusp of breaking that streak.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Chelsea: Sunday 2pm
Wolverhampton Wanderers have won each of their last three meetings with Chelsea, their best sequence since 1975, last achieving 4+ successive victories in this fixture between 1938 and 1947.
More broadly, Wolves have lost only one of their last eight against the Blues, despite tasting defeat in 12 of 15 encounters immediately prior to this upturn, with Chelsea winless in four visits to Molineux.
During Wolves' 4-2 victory in February, Matheus Cunha became only the fourth visiting player to score a Premier League hat-trick at Stamford Bridge, after Nwankwo Kanu, Robin van Persie and Sergio Agüero.
Following defeat at the hands of Manchester City in Enzo Maresca's first match in charge, Chelsea are in danger of starting a league season with successive defeats for the first time since 1973 under Dave Sexton, avoiding relegation by a solitary point back then.
Liverpool vs Brentford: Sunday 4:30pm
Liverpool have won each of their last three encounters with Brentford, while the Bees' sole victory in 13 attempts since 1938 came in West London on 2 January 2023.
The Reds have scored at least thrice in seven of their last nine clashes with the Bees.
Last weekend, Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager to claim victory in their first league match in charge since Graeme Souness in 1991, with Rafa Benitez two decades ago the most-recent to enjoy victory in their home league opener.
Meantime, last Sunday against Crystal Palace, Yoane Wissa became the first player since Riyāḍ Maḥrez in December 2021 to both score and assist in three successive Premier League fixtures; it would be quite the story if he could keep this streak going!
