Wolverhampton Wanderers have won both previous opening day fixtures against Arsenal, prevailing 6-1 in 1946 and 3-1 in 1963.

Arsenal have won only four of their last 12 opening day fixtures, losing five, claiming victory in just three of the last eight played at home, beaten on four occasions.
