Both sides have four points on the board after two matches, so will either maintain their unbeaten starts to the campaign? The last two occasions Spurs have visited St James' Park, they've been trounced, smashed 6-1 and then 4-0 earlier this year, so will this clash go the same way?

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Newcastle's start to this season has been, to say the least, a grind. They battled to a 1-0 victory over Southampton, despite being down to ten-men for over an hour, before they were extremely lucky to earn a draw at Bournemouth last Sunday, the Cherries seeing a stoppage time winner controversially disallowed. Then, on Wednesday night, Eddie Howe's side required a penalty shootout to overcome Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, but the most important thing is that they are still in the competition.

Meantime, Tottenham have had a free week in which to bask in the joy of their 4-0 hammering of Everton last time out. Having said that, Ange Postecoglou will probably still be frustrated that his side could only draw with Leicester on the opening weekend, so he'll be desperate for his side to win on the road this time as they travel to Tyneside.

Newcastle United Team News

Eddie Howe named a very strong side at the City Ground on Wednesday, with Sandro Tonali's inclusion the headline, his first appearance for 308 days following a betting-related ban. In defence, Fabian Schär is serving the final match of his three-game ban so, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles sidelined, Dan Burn is likely to be partnered by Emil Krafth once again. Captain Kieran Trippier did start in Nottingham, but Tino Livramento will return at right-back. Lastly, Joe Willock is out, after hobbling off injured during the first half in mid-week, having opened the scoring just 18 seconds into that League Cup tie.

Newcastle United predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (4-3-3): Pope; Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Kelly; Guimarães, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Gordon, Isak.

Newcastle United Player to Watch vs Tottenham Hotspur

Alexander Isak is yet to get off the mark this season, but did net 25 times during the most-recent campaign, 15 of which were scored at St James' Park, while the Swede has scored a brace both times Tottenham have come to Tyneside since he joined the club; can he keep that streak going?

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

As alluded to earlier, Ange Postecoglou's side haven't been in action for eight days, so he could name an unchanged side. Yves Bissouma was back in against Everton, following an internal suspension, marking his return with his first goal for the club. With Dominic Solanke out, Son Heung-min will continue to lead the line while Wilson Odobert, who impressed on debut, could keep his place out-wide.

Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Newcastle United: (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie; Bissouma, Matar Sarr, Maddison; Johnson, Odobert; Son Heung-min.

Tottenham Hotspur Players to Watch vs Newcastle United

Son Heung-min has previously scored five times against Newcastle, on target during two of his last four visits to St James', while he bagged a brace last weekend, looking to continue his free-scoring form here.

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction

We're expecting a high-scoring game considering the last nine clashes between this pair have witnessed 40 goals, with both teams on target in eight of them. Given Spurs' recent horrendous record on Tyneside, and how they faded at Leicester a fortnight ago, we're backing Newcastle to claim a narrow win: Newcastle United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
