Manchester United top 4 January Transfer down the years
2. Patrice Evra (Monaco, £5.5m), Jan. 10, 2006
Along with Vidic on the cusp of the January window 2006, Patrice Evra signed with Manchester United to replace the out-of-favour, Gabriel Heinze. Evra followed suit and became a predominant figure of a highly successful sterling backline. The back four of Evra, Rio, Vidic and “Class of 92” member Gary Neville was pivotal to United's imperious run under Sir Alex Ferguson between 2006 to 2013, winning 5 Premier League, 3 EFL Cup, 1 Super Cup, 1 FIFA Club World Cup and 1 Champions League titles in that time.
Evra appeared in a total of four Champions League finals with Monaco and Manchester United, losing the first one 3-0 Jose Mourinho’s FC Porto with Monaco and winning one by beating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties with Manchester United. The diminutive Evra was often criticized for his positional sense, which at times made other top-class right back look tactically conservative. However, his attacking surges have given the team essential impetus, when their wingers have been sorely out of form. Hailed as one of the best left-backs in Europe at one point the versatile left-back featured 279 times for Manchester United and 81 times for the French national team. He played one season after Sir Alex Ferguson retired then moved on to play 3 seasons with Juventus.
