Let’s start this Man United player ratings vs Southampton in the Premier League with Andre Onana (7/10) who had a relatively quiet game apart from the few saves he had to make initially. Also, his penalty save was amazing.
In the defence for Manchester United, Noussair Mazraoui (6/10) had a decent outing although Saints were able to exploit his weaknesses. Matthijs de Ligt (8/10) scored his first Manchester United goal and also, looked solid in defence. Lisandro Martinez (7/10) was brilliant in one-on-one situations as well. Diogo Dalot (7/10) looked decent on the left and when he switched to the right, he looked amazing and provided an assist as well.
When it comes to the midfield, Christian Eriksen (7/10) started in place of Casemiro and he was a calming figure in the midfield. Kobbie Mainoo (6/10) got booked and had a decent game. He should have had an assist to his name when he set up Zirkzee which he should have finished. Bruno Fernandes (6/10) was poor in this game as he lost possessions often.
As far as the attack goes for Manchester United, Marcus Rashford (8/10) looked lethal for the first time in this Premier League season. He ended his goal drought with a world-class finish. Joshua Zirkzee (6/10) got a couple of good chances which he should have finished. Amad (9/10) didn’t get on the scoresheet but was a menace for the Southampton defence. He did put in a man-of-the-match-worthy performance.
For the substitutes, Alejandro Garnacho (7/10) looked lively and got on the scoresheet as well. Manuel Ugarte (6/10) had a decent cameo after he came on for Eriksen. Harry Maguire (5/10) came in for Mazraoui and had very little to do. He also got booked just seconds after coming on the pitch. Jonny Evans (6/10) came on for Martinez and did a decent job. Casemiro (NA/10) came on for De Ligt in the dying minutes of the game. For the Manager, Erik ten Hag (6/10), he needs to step up. United needs a wake-up call in every game to start performing. This cannot go on for long.
