Man City player ratings: Midfield

DM: Rodri (5.5/10) - It was surely not a Rodriesque performance. He was struggling to control the game in the first and slowly got the game under control in the second half. Rodri was losing his head towards the end of the first half and could have ended up with a red. He will look to better in the next game.

DM: Mateo Kovacic (4.5/10) - Surely, Kovacic is no more the same Mateo Kovacic that Manchester City thought they had bought from Chelsea. He is now slow and was struggling in this fast game against the speedy forwards of Newcastle. He looked lost in many moments in this game which is a good sign as a Manchester City player.

AM: Bernardo Silva (7.5/10) - There was a time in the game when Manchester City looked fully in control and the main reason for that was Bernardo Silva. He was brilliant and that finish for the first goal was world-class. He could have scored a second but the crossbar and Dubravka denied him.

  • SUB: Kevin De Bruyne (8.5/10) - Pep had to call on De Bryune in the 69th minute to replace Bernardo Silva. And, when the maestro came onto the pitch, the game changed. He scored one and assisted one for Oscar Bobb to get Manchester City over the line. Kevin De Bruyne is surely the man of the match for Manchester City.
