According to the highly regarded journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Fulham are set to resign central defender Joachim Andersen on a permanent deal.

Andersen played for Fulham, on loan from Lyon, in the 20/21 season. Whilst they couldn't retain their Premier League status, Andersen's performances were good enough to secure a permanent transfer to Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021.

He has been very consistent for Palace in that side, forging a solid partnership with Marc Guehi, who has been heavily linked with a move away himself this month, to Newcastle United.

It feels like an underwhelming move for Andersen, who at 28-years old has built himself a strong reputation in the game. He impressed at the European Championships with Denmark over the summer - and was very unlucky in the round of 16 game against Germany.

That said, Andersen knows about Fulham from his time there in 20/21, albeit things look a lot different now, and can move club whilst still being able to live in London.

As touched on above, Fulham are a much more competitive side than during the defenders last stint there, and he may feel like he has unfinished business there and sees an opportunity to play for the club again, whilst this time winning a lot more games.

That, and he can play in front of the Fulham fans, having not been able to do so in the covid restricted 20/21 campaign.

Ornstein reports that the fee is £30m plus add ons, with Fulham having plenty of money in the back after the high profile sale of Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich.

Centre-backs Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream left the clubs on free transfers to Chelsea and Charlotte respsectively, so some reinforcements in central defence has been much needed at Fulham. In Andersen, they have a proven top quality Premier League defender who also showcases elite ball playing abilities.
