Ferencváros vs Tottenham Hotspur - Europa League: TV channel, prediction, team news and lineups
By Ben Gray
In their rich European history that dates back to 1961, Tottenham Hotspur have faced 105 different opponents from 36 different countries, but have never taken on Hungarian opposition, a fact that'll change in Budapest on Thursday night.
Ferencváros vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview
Will Tottenham Hotspur's winning streak continue? A week ago, despite seeing Radu Drăgușin sent off inside seven minutes, Spurs still managed to comfortably beat Qarabağ 3-0 on matchday one of this competition, with Brennan Johnson, Pape Matar Sarr and then Dominic Solanke all on target in North London.
Then, on Sunday, Ange Postecoglou's side claimed an even more noteworthy 3-0 victory, swatting aside Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Johnson and Solanke both continuing their scoring spree, while Dejan Kuluševski was spectacularly on target in-between. Overall, Tottenham have now won four on the spin across all competitions, aiming to win five successive matches for the first time since March 2021, a month before José Mourinho was sacked.
As for Ferencváros, having won six successive Nemzeti Bajnokság I titles, this is their sixth successive season competing in a UEFA group stage. The Green Eagles were dumped out of Champions League qualifying by Midtjylland in August, before requiring a penalty shootout to overcome Borac Banja Luka, thereby salvaging a spot in this competition.
Then, on matchday one a week ago, the Hungarian champions were beaten 2-1 by Anderlecht in Brussels; Adama Malouda Traoré's late goal setting up a grand-stand finish, but to no avail. Now led by London-born former AZ manager Pascal Jansen, Ferencváros' minimum expectation will be to reach the knockout stages, but are certainly underdogs to put their first points on the board here, despite being roared on by a raucous home crowd at Groupama Aréna.

Ferencváros Team News
Pascal Jansen made six outfield changes for Sunday's 3-0 win over Puskás Akadémia, so it'll be interesting to see if he largely reverts to the team beaten in Brussels last Wednesday. Summer signing Matheus Saldanha didn't start either of these matches, but did score twice off the bench at the weekend, so has he earned himself a start?
Ferencváros predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (4-2-3-1): Dibusz; Botka, Cissé, Szalai, Ramírez; Abu Fani, Rommens, Zachariassen, Borges, Traoré; Varga.
Ferencváros Player to Watch vs Tottenham Hotspur
Adama Traoré, not to be confused with his varius namesakes, could be the Green Eagles' primary goal threat. His goal against Anderlecht was his fifth of the season, including a hat-trick against The New Saints in Champions League qualifying, meaning he's now scored 24 times in UEFA competition across his spells with FC Sheriff Tiraspol and now Ferencváros, moving to Budapest in 2022.
Tottenham Hotspur Team News
Captain Son Heung-min hobbled off injured last Thursday, thereby sitting out the trip to Old Trafford, so also won't feature here. Radu Drăgușin's sending off against Qarabağ means he is suspended, although Cristian Romero is available again, having served a ban of his own for a red card he picked up against A.C. Milan all the way back in March 2023. With Sunday's trip to Brighton in mind, Ange Postecoglou is likely to rotate a bit, with Yves Bissouma, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall amongst those hoping to start.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Ferencváros: (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Gray, van de Ven, Romero, Davies; Bissouma, Matar Sarr, Bergvall, Kuluševski, Werner; Solanke.
Tottenham Hotspur Player to Watch vs Ferencváros
Dominic Solanke has now scored in three successive matches, on target against Brentford, Qarabağ and Manchester United, last Thursday's clincher his first-ever goal in a senior UEFA competition, so can he keep the streak going in the Hungarian capital.
Ferencváros vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
It won't be easy, but we're backing Spurs to pick up three points in Budapest. Ferencváros have lost only three of their last 16 European home games, but have not been impressive in UEFA competition this season, winless in five, their sole victories coming over minnows The New Saints. Tottenham meantime have really clicked into gear lately, while Ange Postecoglou has already masterminded a victory over the Green Eagles in Budapest, his Celtic side 3-2 winners three years ago, with a similar outcome expected on Thursday: Ferencváros 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur.
