European Super League: Court verdict prevents UEFA from banning clubs from joining the Super League
When the European Super League was first announced, fans from different clubs stood against it. They didn’t like the breakaway club competition that would only have the elite football clubs from Europe. However, the tables have turned as The European Union Court Of Justice has given its verdict on the breakaway league which could be interpreted as a huge setback for UEFA as well as FIFA. The Court said that UEFA doesn’t have a monopoly over football in Europe. Any club competition can be organized and UEFA cannot ban those clubs that participate in such competitions. Here is the summary of the verdict from The European Union Court Of Justice;
The European Super League CEO, Bernd Reichart said after the verdict (Source: via MadridXtra Twitter handle),
"“We have won the right to compete. UEFA's monopoly is over. Football is free. Now clubs will no longer suffer threats and sanctions.” "

Now, it will be interesting to see how things unfold as UEFA also came out with their statement on the matter which says (Source: via MadridXtra Twitter handle),
"“This ruling does not signify an endorsement or validation of the so-called 'super league', rather it highlights a pre-existing deficit within UEFA's prior authorization framework, a technical aspect that was already recognized and addressed in June 2022.”"
- UEFA Statement
However, it seems now more than ever that there is a possibility of the breakaway European Super League. La Liga clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona were always in favour of this idea of the European Super League. Although Premier League clubs (the big 6) joined this idea of a breakaway league, due to the pressure from fans, all of them had to withdraw. With the current court verdict, it will be interesting to what the stance from the Premier League clubs is as Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is already welcoming the idea of the European Super League back.
