A midfield powerhouse has been a priority for Bayern Munich in this transfer window as they look to improve upon last season's performance. The delay in closing a deal for Fulham's Joao Palhinha has seen Bayern shift their sights towards Onana.

Bayern to Move for Onana?

Palhinha is a long-term target for Bayern and the club tried to sign him last summer but failed. They were determined to secure him this time, but negotiations have been futile.

Bayern have found it difficult to agree a price for Palhinha with Fulham. The German club are willing to pay around £40 million which is deemed low by the bosses at Craven Cottage. The player himself has been very keen on the move and was hoping the deal would be closed before the Euros began.

According to Liverpoolecho, Bayern are now planning to bring Everton player Amadou Onana to Allianz Arena. A move for the Belgian can be beneficial in multiple ways. He will not be as costly as Palhinha due to Everton's attempts to comply with PSR rules. He is way younger than Palhinha. Onana is also adept at breaking down opposition attacks and will provide an excellent aerial threat to Bayern. He has been a regular starter for club and country.

Arsenal have also been monitoring Onana as they look to replace their outgoing midfielders Thomas Partey and Elneny. The Everton star is capable of playing in the No.6 and No.8 role. He will add more depth to the Gunners' midfield and ease the pressure on Declan Rice.

Onana himself has hinted at a move away from Merseyside. Before the Euros began he had expressed his plan to use the tournament as a platform to secure a move to one of the bigger European clubs. So far he has been a crucial part of the Belgium team in the Euros and has protected his defence admirably.
