Aston Villa vs Arsenal - Premier League: TV channel, prediction, team news and lineups
By Ben Gray
Aston Villa did the league-double over Arsenal last season, with the Gunners having actually lost three of their last five visits to Villa Park, so victory for Mikel Arteta's team this time would be a major statement in their quest to win the Premier League title.

Aston Villa Team News
Despite not featuring at all during pre-season, following his exploits at the Euros, Ollie Watkins started against West Ham, before being hooked after an hour with his replacement, Jhon Durán, the late match-winner. Elsewhere, Amadou Onana marked his debut with a goal, while fellow-summer recruits Ian Maatsen, Kosta Nedeljković and Jaden Philogene all came off the bench, with the returning Ross Barkley an unused substitute. Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara are both sidelined long-term.
Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Arsenal: (4-3-3): Martínez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Onana, Tielemans, McGinn; Bailey, Rogers, Watkins.
Aston Villa Players to Watch vs Arsenal
Ollie Watkins was clearly lacking match-sharpness at the London Stadium, understandably so, but has an imperious goal-scoring record against Arsenal, netting five in eight Premier League outings against the Gunners, including during their 2-0 victory in North London last April.
Arsenal Team News
There were no debutants on show for Arsenal last weekend, the sole new recruit, to date, Riccardo Calafiori left amongst the substitutes. Mikel Arteta though does have some key selection decisions to make though. He opted for Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back and Thomas Partey in midfield against Wolves, but either Jurriën Timber or the aforementioned Calafiori could come into defence, while Jorginho may be in line to displace the Ghanian at the base of midfield.
Arsenal predicted lineup vs Aston Villa: (4-2-3-1): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber; Partey, Rice, Ødegaard; Saka, Trossard, Havertz.
Arsenal Players to Watch vs Aston Villa
Kai Havertz broke the deadlock with a towering header last weekend, before getting the assist for Bukayo Saka's second half thunderbolt. According to Harvey Downes on Twitter, the German has now both scored and assisted in five Premier League matches in 2024, the most by any Arsenal player in a calendar year since Robin van Persie in 2011. Many in the media have parroted the narrative that the Gunners won't win the title unless they sign a striker, but Havertz is gradually becoming that figure.
Aston Villa vs Arsenal Prediction
This game is tough to call; Arsenal were bullied in defeat at Villa Park last December, before an Unai Emery tactical masterclass in North London last April left those bedecked in claret and blue celebrating, and those donning red and white distraught. Villa were ultra-impressive as they won at West Ham on opening day, while the Gunners got the job done by defeating Wolves, so we're sitting on the fence and forecasting a draw: Aston Villa 1-1 Arsenal.
