It's time for a repeat of the Champions League Finals of both 2005 and 2007; Liverpool pulled off one of the most unlikely sporting comebacks in İstanbul, before AC Milan got revenge in Athens two years later, so which way will this clash go at San Siro?

AC Milan vs Liverpool Preview

After a one-year absence, Liverpool are back in the Champions League; now under new management of course, how far will they go? During Jürgen Klopp's reign, the Reds reached three Champions League Finals, winning one of them, with supporters dreaming of being in Munich for this year's final on 31 May. Well, Arne Slot's start to life on Merseyside could hardly have began any better, winning his first three matches in charge without conceding, until the weekend that is, with Nottingham Forest leaving Anfield 1-0 winners, providing the home fans with a serious reality check. Now though, as they travel to one of the most iconic venues in world football, can Liverpool get back to winning ways?

A.C. Milan meantime are also under new management, Paulo Fonseca having succeeded Stefano Pioli, although the new boss isn't proving to be too popular. I Rossoneri failed to win any of their three Serie A fixtures in August, embarrassingly beaten 2-1 at Il Tardini by newly-promoted Parma, before catching fire at the weekend, smashing Venezia 4-0 at home; Théo Hernandez, Youssouf Fofana, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham all on target in the opening half an hour. Fair to say, it's a big week for Milan, with the Derby della Madonnina to come on Sunday, given that Il Diavolo have lost each of their last six encounters against Inter, form that essentially saw Pioli sacked. Back in the Champions League, the seven-times European champions have only featured in the knockout phase of this competition once since 2013/14, reaching the semi-finals two seasons ago, so every point they can pick up will be precious, even if they are underdogs on opening night.

AC Milan Team News

Davide Calabria, Alessandro Florenzi, Malick Thiaw and Ismaël Bennacer are all currently sidelined, the latter the biggest blow, although Ruben Loftus-Cheek and weekend scorer Youssouf Fofana do still form a solid midfield pairing. Having been on the bench at the weekend, Fikayo Tomori is likely to return at centre-back while, up front, Tammy Abraham could continue to get the nod over fellow new-recruit Álvaro Morata. USA captain Christian Pulisic took his tally to two goals for the campaign against Venezia, while he also found the net twice against Liverpool during his time at Chelsea.

AC Milan predicted lineup vs Liverpool: (4-3-3): Maignan; Emerson, Tomori, Pavlović, Hernandez; Fofana, Loftus-Cheek, Reijnders; Pulisic, Leão, Abraham.

AC Milan Player to Watch vs Liverpool

Rafael Leão was the star of the A.C. Milan side that reached the Champions League semi-finals the season before last, and it is something of a surprise that he is still representing I Rossoneri. The Portuguese winger scored 15 times last season, opening his account for the new campaign at Stadio Olimpico before the international break, so he could be the home side's danger man, exploiting any space that may be vacated by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool Team News

Arne Slot's starting XIs have been more or less completely unchanged, Ibrahima Konaté displacing Jarell Quansah the only alteration he's made across four games, but with fixtures coming thick and fast, and following Saturday's defeat, he may buck this trend. Curtis Jones, Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo all came off the bench at the weekend, so are all surely in contention, unlike new arrival Federico Chiesa, who's still building up his match-fitness.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs AC Milan: (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Salah, Luis Díaz, Jota.

Liverpool Player to Watch vs AC Milan

During the group stages three seasons ago, Liverpool beat A.C. Milan both home and away, with Mohamed Salah on target at both Anfield and then San Siro. The Egyptian scored in the Reds' first three fixtures of this campaign, a streak that was abruptly halted at the weekend, but he is certainly their most-likely scorer at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

AC Milan vs Liverpool Prediction

For any neutrals tuning in on Tuesday night, good news, we're expecting an entertaining affair, one which'll result in Liverpool prevailing. Slot's side posses so much attacking firepower and, while there are plenty of talented players in the Milan team, they're yet to figure it out under Fonseca, with a home win over Venezia not enough to convince that they'll be able to handle Liverpool: AC Milan 1-3 Liverpool.
