Manchester United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, surpassing last year's record, while they are winless in five across all competitions, most-recently enduring a six game streak without a victory in December 2015, so can Brentford add to the Red Devils' misery?

Manchester United vs Brentford Preview

Erik ten Hag remains Manchester United manager, not sure how, so can they claim a first win since 17 September? Last time out, the Red Devils played out a diabolically dull goalless draw at Villa Park, a result that, seemingly, did enough to keep ten Hag in situ. Man United though are without a win in five, drawing both Europa League games so far, while yielding just five points from their last six Premier League fixtures. This leaves them 14th in the table, while only Southampton have scored fewer than their five goals so far, the lowest amount Man United have managed at this stage of a season since 1972. With trips to Fenerbahçe and then West Ham to come this week, victory here feels of vital importance.

Given their host's continued woes, Brentford might just fancy their chances of a first victory at Old Trafford since 1937, despite having lost all six outings there subsequently. Thomas Frank's team have scored in the opening 90 seconds of each of their last four Premier League games, unsurprisingly a competition record, but finally made their fast-starts count, beating Wolves 5-3 a fortnight ago; Nathan Collins, Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Nørgaard, Ethan Pinnock and Fábio Carvalho all scoring. The Bees have therefore collected ten points from a possible 12 at home, leaving them three places above their hosts, although they've lost all three away games to date, albeit these have come against Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham. Brentford famously battered Manchester United 4-0 right at the start of the ten Hag era, so could they bookend it by claiming a famous win at Old Trafford?

Manchester United Team News

Noussair Mazraoui will be sidelined for 'a few weeks' following precautionary minor surgery after the Moroccan experienced heart palpitations. This adds to Man United's defensive crisis, given that Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro are also sidelined, leading to reports that Jonny Evans will be deployed as an 'emergency left-back'. Victor Lindelöf is also an option, having made his first appearance since the FA Cup Final, following a toe injury, at Villa Park, also breifly in action for Sweden last Friday. Fit again Rasmus Højlund will lead the line while Kobbie Mainoo has to tread carefully, because a booking here would rule him out of next Sunday's trip to West Ham.

Manchester United predicted lineup vs Brentford: (4-1-4-1): Onana; Dalot, de Ligt, Martínez, Evans; Mainoo, Eriksen, Fernandes, Garnacho, Rashford; Højlund.

Manchester United Player to Watch vs Brentford

There have been signs that Marcus Rashford is edging back to his best, taking his tally to four goals for the season at Estádio do Dragão. Not in the England squad these days, Rashford has had two weeks to prepare for this one so, having previously scored twice against Brentford, can he add to that tally?

Brentford Team News

With both usual full-backs Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey sidelined long-term, Thomas Frank has been deploying a quartet of centre-backs, featuring Kristoffer Ajer and Sepp van den Berg filling-in out-wide, while Ben Mee is yet to start in the Premier League so far this season, If Frank decides to switch to a back five, Mads Roerslev could come in as defensive reinforcement. In midfield, the Bees are likely to be boosted by the return of Mathias Jensen, alongside also fit again Christian Nørgaard, while, in attack, Yoane Wissa and Igor Thiago are still out for some time.

Brentford predicted lineup vs Manchester United: (5-3-2): Flekken; Roerslev, van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Ajer; Nørgaard, Jensen, Janelt; Mbuemo, Lewis-Potter.

Brentford Player to Watch vs Manchester United

Bryan Mbeumo has already scored six Premier League goals this season, only Erling Braut Håland has more, while the Cameroonian international was also on target against Kenya in Douala last weekend, so can he continue his hot-streak?

Manchester United vs Brentford Prediction

We're backing Brentford to leave Old Trafford with a point, which would represent their best result at the venue for 87 years. Man United are just so chaotic right now, meaning we'd frankly be surprised if they were to win this one, hence why were plumping for a high-scoring draw: Manchester United 2-2 Brentford.
