Manchester United fans have become accustomed to their club's record defeats in the 2024/25 season, with many negative results marking the Red Devils' Premier League campaign. However, the fans are more annoyed by the club's record-breaking run of defeats due to a lack of good performance during actual season with several players and different managers.

How Manchester United were beaten by Crystal Palace

United were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in their 24th Premier League matchday fixture. Despite the greater offensive volume, the home side failed to turn possession and shots on target into goals. In other words, it showed that some of the players in the current squad no longer have the high level required to play for United.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace relied on quick transitions with great efficiency to get the win. In the 64th minute, Eze's free-kick was met by Hughes, who beat Yoro's fragile marker in the box to get a firm shot on goalkeeper Onana's crossbar, but Mateta capitalised on the rebound and finished. The second goal came from a counter-attack down the right flank, with Muñoz passing deep to Mateta, who was well positioned and finished without the goalkeeper in the penalty area.

An indigestible record for home defeats in the Premier League

With this negative result, Manchester United have now lost seven of their first 13 home games in the Premier League. According to the Opta database, the Red Devils have equalled their worst home record in English football, equalling the 1983/1984 season.

While the success of the season is increasingly being pinned on winning the UEFA Europa League, Manchester United need to be more careful to avoid relegation scares. Needing to regain their confidence, the Red Devils return to action on Thursday against Leicester in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
