It looks like Manchester United might already be prepared to cut their losses on one of their biggest signings from last summer. Rasmus Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford in 2023 for a fee believed to be around £72 million, joining from Serie A side Atalanta.
Fast forward a year, and the Danish striker could be headed back to Italy, with Juventus reportedly showing strong interest in a summer move.
The 21-year-old has struggled to find consistency in the final third. Despite being given ample chances under both Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim, his returns have failed to match the early expectations.
Manchester United could offload £72m signing amid Juventus interest
As reported by Football Insider, Manchester United are open to selling Hojlund if a suitable offer comes in, with a valuation of around £50 million believed to be enough to get a deal done. Juventus are said to be exploring the possibility of bringing him back to Serie A, where he had impressed before making the switch to England.
In total, Hojlund has scored just 8 goals in 43 appearances this season, with only 3 of those coming in the Premier League. For a club like Manchester United—desperate for a consistent goal scorer—that simply hasn’t been enough.
Former United scout Mick Brown believes that a summer exit looks increasingly likely. He told Football Insider:
"Man United took the plunge and it’s never really happened for him here… Juventus I hear are one of those clubs, they like what they saw from him playing in Italy."
There is even speculation around a potential swap deal involving Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has been long linked with a move to the Premier League.
It does feel like United are ready to move on from Hojlund and sign someone capable of making an immediate impact up top. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is reportedly one of the names on their radar.
At this stage in his career, Hojlund is still raw and unfinished. His inexperience and poor form have cost the Red Devils valuable points this season, and with Amorim expected to make major changes this summer, a new number 9 could be a priority.
Only time will tell if Juventus come back with a serious offer, but what’s clear is that Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford is now hanging in the balance.
