Liverpool are winless in eight Premier League visits to the Etihad, thereby now seeking to complete a first league-double over Man City since 2015/16.

Manchester City vs Liverpool Preview

Run-away league-leaders Liverpool have started to wobble in recent weeks, even if only a little bit, but a victory here would represent a gigantic step towards the title.

On Wednesday night, the Reds were involved in a thoroughly entertaining 2-2 draw at Villa Park, which Arne Slot believed was two points dropped. Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock early, but Aston Villa fought back to lead at halftime, only for Trent Alexander-Arnold to lash home an equaliser on the hour mark. Both missed gilt-edged opportunities to win it late on, the Reds' best chance falling to Darwin Núñez.

This, probably, represents a good point for Liverpool, extending their unbeaten run to 22 league matches, albeit they've drawn four of eight outings since New Year's Day, including that dramatic Merseyside derby at Goodison.

Given that the Reds are eight points clear of Arsenal, having played a game more, victory for Slot's side would surely leave them with one hand on the trophy, but defeat could open the door, even if only slightly, for the chasing Gunners.

So, are Manchester City capable of derailing Liverpool's title dreams? Well, based on what they produced in mid-week, no. On Wednesday, Pep Guardiola's team were dumped out of the Champions League, hammered by Real Madrid at the Bernabéu. Nico González's first goal for the club in stoppage time was scant consolation, as they exited 6-3 in aggregate. So now, as well as the FA Cup, the Sky Blues' primary focus must be on ensuring they're back in next season's Champions League.

Last weekend, bizarrely, the Citizens put in their best performance for months, hammering Newcastle 4-0 at the Etihad, thanks to Omar Marmoush's first-ever senior hat-trick. Guardiola's team have now won five of their last seven in the league, but, with games against Forest, Spurs and then Brighton to come after this, there are no guarantees Man City will maintain their current position of fourth. Thus, everything points towards a Liverpool victory in East Manchester on Sunday.

Manchester City Team News

John Stones hobbled off in Madrid in mid-week, joining Manuel Akanji and Rodri in the treatment room. So, as was the case mid-game on Wednesday, Nathan Aké is likely to come into defence, although Vitor Reis is also on option, having not been included in the UEFA squad, something that's obviously no longer an issue.

The major talking point surrounds Erling Braut Håland's fitness; after jarring his knee against Newcastle, he was an unused substitute at the Bernabéu, so has the Norwegian striker suffered a bad injury, or was Pep Guardiola simply saving him for this one? We'll find out at 15:15 GMT on Sunday.

Manchester City predicted lineup vs Liverpool: (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Khusanov, Rúben Dias, Aké, Gvardiol; Kovačić, Nico, Silva, Foden Savinho; Marmoush.

Manchester City Player to Watch vs Liverpool

In Håland's potential absence, Omar Marmoush's importance rises so, after a hat-trick last weekend, can the Egyptian be the man to dent Liverpool's title dreams?

Liverpool Team News

Arne Slot, somewhat surprisingly, left Luis Díaz on the bench at Villa Park, from the start at least, deploying a more compact midfield four, so will he do the same again here, or go more attacking? Joe Gomez and Cody Gakpo are sidelined, so Diogo Jota is poised to start a third successive Premier League match, most-recently doing so in October.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs Manchester City: (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Luis Díaz, Jota.

Liverpool Player to Watch vs Manchester City

While Man City may have the Egyptian prince, Liverpool indisputably boast the Egyptian king, given that Mohamed Salah took his tally to 29 for the season on Wednesday, now aiming to add to his 12 career goals against the Citizens.

Manchester City vs Liverpool Prediction

We cannot foresee any other outcome than a Liverpool victory. The Reds are in fantastic form, while Man City are leaking goals left, right and centre, almost literally, so we're fully backing the Arne Slot machine to pay out another jackpot come Sunday: Manchester City 1-3 Liverpool.
