Liverpool has reportedly set sights on a Serie A star to replace Luis Díaz. AC Milan's Rafael Leão is the player the Reds have targeted as per TEAMTalk in case the Colombian international departs this summer, with Díaz being linked with a move to Barcelona.

The Portuguese winger has been on the radar of several top European clubs. He played a crucial role in AC Milan’s 2021-22 Serie A title-winning campaign, and his impressive performances earned him a contract extension until 2028. In the 2023-24 season, the 25-year-old became the second-fastest player in the club’s history, after Brazilian legend Kaká, to reach 50 goals and 50 assists. He finished the season as the league’s top assist provider and was named in the Serie A Team of the Season.

Leão kicked off 2025 with silverware as he helped AC Milan secure the 2024 Supercoppa Italiana against rivals Inter Milan. Coming on as a substitute, he was instrumental in their victory, providing the assists for both winning goals.

On the international stage, Leão has been capped 37 times for Portugal. He was part of the squads for both the 2022 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2024, scoring five goals for his country.

Leão is a quick, skillful, and technically gifted winger capable of playing on either flank, though he is primarily deployed on the left. These attributes are likely what have attracted Liverpool. Luis Díaz, typically used on the left wing for the Reds, has often been shifted into a central role this season, with Cody Gakpo preferred on the left.

However, Díaz's inconsistent form has prevented Liverpool from fully capitalizing on his abilities. Federico Chiesa, another player capable of operating in a similar position, has struggled with injuries since joining the club. Meanwhile, Diogo Jota, who can also play on the left, has primarily been used in a central role.

AC Milan has long valued Leão highly, but recent reports suggest they have lowered their asking price to around €100 million. The Portuguese international could be on the move this summer.
